I just ordered one of the updated M&P9's and will use it to begin my first custom pistol build. I've been talking with Floyd's and will probably get most of the work done there.

Has anyone around here customized their M&P? i.e. custom slide milling, custom stippling, custom cerakoting, custom barrels, triggers, etc?

If so, would ya'll mind posting a picture of your customized M&P and a little summary of what you've had done to it?

Cheers

I didn’t mean to ignore your request for three days. I was waiting for my slide to come back from Cerakoting and put everything back together and take pictures for you.

I have 2 M&P full size 9 mm’s set up similarly.

The oldest one (2012) has the slide cut for an RMR with suppressor height sights and a gunsmith fit Apex threaded barrel installed. The single vertical vent comp is from Suarez International. It has Apex trigger parts, springs and their failure resistant extractor. 4.5# trigger pull. The slide has had all sharp edges rounded off and of course Cerakoted in battle worn bronze. The slide stop/release has been adjusted to auto-release.

The backstrap was stippled by A2 Stippling, and the rest of the grip has a Talon wrap. I cut mag access notches at the bottom of the grip. I also have a recoil control shelf and stippling in front of the takedown lever. Shortened beaver tail.

I added a custom engraved back plate to the slide and a couple of mag bases with my family crest on them. There are three Taran Tactical +5 mag bases on other mags. No windows or ports for me.

The second one (my alternate, 2016) is closer to stock with the original barrel which is extremely accurate. It also has Apex trigger parts, A2 backstrap stippling, and a piece of Talon wrap on the front of the grip. The slide was cut for the RMR footprint, and it has Dawson suppressor height iron sights. Same family crest on the backplate. Mag cut outs on the grip. Recoil shelf and stippling. Shortened beaver tail. Same trigger pull. Auto release slide lever. I had to do some filing on the pic rail to get my light to fit.

A note on the RMR slide milling: To get the optic away from the ejection port, the rear of the RMR cut starts at the rear of the former factory rear sight dove tail cut. This requires another dove tail to be cut behind it to accept a Glock MOS rear sight which fits nicely. Lots of choices. My co-witnessed iron sights protrude only about 15% into the bottom of my optic, leaving more window available for the dot.

Not to hijack a thread but... Another option when milling is to have the optic mounted all the way to the rear and the slide machined for a Glock sight in FRONT of the optic. This allows the optic to be further away from the ejection port, meaning less oil/carbon fouling on the lens, and the metal sight takes some of the abuse if you have to one hand rack the slide. Just putting it out there.

My pistols above are fighting pistols, although they are very accurate. I like them to be unique, but they don’t have to be pretty. I have a lot of money in my primary EDC, but nothing close to that Ed Brown edition.
