Welcome! These have a strong recoil spring and a relatively small gripping surface on the slide. There is an attachment for the slide rear that makes it easier to grasp, called a “slide racker” or something similar.

You might also want to look at a Shield EZ. They're specifically made to be easier to rack and easier to load the magazines compared to the regular Shield.

Yes I am considering that, just have to find a holster that is compatible with enigma express.

Check out this product: Home - HandiRacker
I have one, and it works as advertised. It makes Shield-racking easy.

I don't have any trouble racking the slide on my Shields to chamber a round, but, even after 3k rounds and 8 years, I still struggle to lock it back for field stripping and cleaning. It's that last 1/8th inch that gives me trouble. Inserting an empty mag solves that problem tho.

You might want to look at the TacRack slide assist and one made by Recover Tactical. There are also some good videos on racking technique for those of us with diminished hand strength. I feel your pain. I find as I get older it's getting harder to rack some of my favorite handguns.

The Shield has always had a reputation as a hard to rack gun. Mine sure was. And it never got easier. Now I have a Shield Plus, doesn't seem much easier. My 5" M&P Pro is easy to rack compared to the Shield.

I am not getting any younger either and had the same issue with my 9mm Shield. I ended up selling it this past weekend because of the difficulty in racking. I also tried an aftermarket spring assembly, but that really did not help enough.
I now have a GLOCK 43 that is relatively easy for me rack, and I may get a GLOCK 42 for summer carry to replace my Bodyguard 380. We shall see...
Good luck in whatever you seek.

Hope you are right. My new Shield Plus is a bugger to rack.
I'm guessing but I would think a lighter spring might affect the loading and ejecting of the ammo you use. I'm also guessing that it wouldn't hurt to try.

Modify your technique a bit. Grasp the slide firmly in your left hand, then push the frame forward with your right hand.

One other solution: Get a Shield 45. It's much easier to rack than the 9, and it's way more accurate. You do give up a round, but to me, it's worth it.
