Default M&P 5.7 Mag Issues

I'm having trouble with both my mags. First off the mags will not seat all the way into the pistol unless I really slam it into the mag-well and even then they come loose and you can pull out the mag without the mag release button depressed, so you really have to keep checking to make sure the magazine is fully seated. Then the magazine spring gets stuck and won't feed the bullets up for the slide to push them into the chamber, the rounds are actually loose in the magazine and I have to bang the mag on something for the spring to finally release and push the bullets up and this happens on both magazines.
I've tried to load all 22 rounds into the magazines and left them fully loaded for a few days hopefully loosening up the spring to no avail.
I was considering this being my EDC but now I'm not confident enough in it to function properly in an emergency.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Leave both magazines fully loaded for one week and check function afterward. I think you'll see improvement. I did.

Mine first magazine it was weird. I had one failure to feed and then a loose round fall out of my magazine couldn't explain what happened but I don't think I can trust this for ccw

I experienced this same issue and believe it's just that the magazines are made of stamped metal (and they pushed out a lot of them) and they're not super polished on the inside.
Metal on metal; gears need to find a home, mesh.
I was lucky enough to have terrible weather when my M&P5.7 arrived so filling and cycling the magazines before I could get to the range solved the problem for me. When I couldn't wait any more and went to an indoor range, I had them broken in and it ran flawlessly. I fired 200 rounds (100 factory, 100 reloads) that first session. I now have 900 rounds through it (100 factory, 800 reloads) and have only had one failure to fire (no failure to feed) and that was due to the primmer, on a reload.

Thanks for this everyone. I've been searching like crazy and then finally emailed S&W. They said leave mags full for two weeks to kill some of the tension on the spring. From reading above, it seems like this is working. I'm going to give it a shot (pardon the pun).

This. If the Mag is not latching when you insert it with the slide open, you’ve got an issue with the latch itself. I believe it’s 22 rds, NOT 22 plus 1😏

If this were true everyone could sue S&W for false advertisement.
They can't advertise "22 round magazine" if you can only use 21.

Gun companies always stretch the facts to some degree . Nothing new there . After all many gun companies rather use beta testersa new firearm today to see if it reall works well and the many M&P 10mm owners know that to be the truth so advertising can be mostly BS too .

Its not an uncommon problem for many of todays pistols if the shooter has a weaker grip and maybe a bit less strength can cause a problem for some to rack the slide with the needed authority when they carry with a full mag +1 .

Might be just one of two reason why LE carry 9mm weaker shooters and of course some will say ammo cost but 9mm 124gr or 147gr gold dot is lets say 34.99 while 165gr 40sw from the same provider is 32.99 ! hum Let the set fully loaded for a while and they do break in some but there is that option of loading with the slide back too , like it or not !

Time to move on , ha.

I had same 21 rounds problem to start with, but leaving mags loaded cured the problem. It's now 100% and I love the gun...almost as much as my Sig 220 Legion 10mm. Now that's one real gun, not a plastic wanna be.

My M&P 22WMR is a very good shooter and cheaper then 5.7mm, both are a hoot to shoot. The CCI 40 grain game bullet is excellent in the 22WMR.

Some extended magazine base pads would help with this problem, but I haven't been able to find any for sale anywhere. Anyone know it these are available anywhere.

Hey are you still having the issue or was a solution found. Just picked up mine a few days ago and I even used dry lube to relieve it but still does maintain the pressure and bullets just fall out

I'm not having any problems with cartridges feeding in either of my two 5.7s, and I am using a dozen mags in my training classes. However, the magazine retention is still a problem. I made some pads from an old belt but they are not thick enough. I have been working with forum member Chris (s&w19.357) who has provided me with some experimental pads. They are gluing up now and I will try them next week. The problem with finding commercial pads seems to be that the configuration of the base of the magazine is not conducive to adding extension pads. At least, I still have not found any on the market anywhere.
