New .22 Magnum (rimfire) M & P

I watched a couple of YouTube videos on the gun. Both of them showed the gun to be reliable which was impressive as getting a .22 WMR autoloading pistol to be reliable with the variety of ammo available is no easy task. The one guy who used the term "platform" about 50 times annoyed me. Sootch's review was good, as he always is.

I have an AMT Automag II and it is reliable but only with 40 and 45 grain loadings. It doesn't like the lightweight "MaxiMag" loads at all.

Kudos to S&W for developing it but I can't get over how ugly it is. I just can't warm up to polymer guns and guns with the Glock-like safety lever on the trigger. I'll stick with my old AMT, 6 lb. 10 oz. trigger and all.

I've owned the Kel-Tec PMR 30, also the Kel-Tec CMR 30, 16 in carbine. They both work flawlessly and that pistol has never given me one issue whatsoever. Personally I'm excited to see Smith & Wesson jump on board with the pistol in 22 mag and a 30 round magazine. My two hope that Smith puts out a barrel that would be threaded for suppressor sometime. Looking forward to get my hands on one.

I know Walther has a list of recommended and contraindicated ammo, the 30 gr loads are on the avoid list. I think Smith does, too.

I want to handle one, the magazine has a big potbellied extension to hold 30 rounds. A flush base with 25 might be good to have around.

Plus one on the need for a threaded barrel. I have several .22 mags but I want this one too.

Does a suppressor make a 22 Mag pistol quiet enough to shoot without hearing protection? It sounds like you already have a suppressor on one of your other 22 mag pistols.

A friend had an AMT Automag II back in the early 90s. The fireball and muzzle blast were impressive, as one would expect from what is basically a rifle cartridge being fired in a handgun. I am sure a suppressor would help but am skeptical I would want to fire one without hearing protection even if it was suppressed.

I am curious about how well it will perform with Short Barrel ammunition such as Speer Gold Dot. Short Barrel ammunition is designed for use in 2” barrel small frame revolvers such as the Taurus 942. The longer barrel should burn the powder more efficiently meaning less muzzle flash.

I am very satisfied with the accuracy and performance of Speer Gold from my little Taurus. (I consider it superior to .38 Spl. Snubbie). I am planning on getting Ruger Super Wrangler and using the .22 Magnum in it almost exclusively for varmint control if it proves to be accurate enough.

I am glad to see old cartridges being given new life.

Dang........Was hoping for a .22mag..... 15/22 with 10 and 25rd mags!

That would be worth having.

How many of us have Ruger convertible single sixes? I think I’ve put the 22mag cylinder in it once and fired fifty rounds maybe. For what most of us do, punch paper, 22 wmr is a complete waste of money. For small game ok but how many hunt with a polymer pistol?

I’m hoping they adapt the 15/22 to 22wmr too.

I think the .22 Magnum is an under rated round and the more varieties of pistols that chamber it, the better.

Me too. I’ve got a 648 and a 351PD that I really like, but I don’t think I need a $600 Jam-O-Matic semi auto .22 WMR. I’ve got a $375 PMR30 that will do that.

I'm thinking if they have the system figured out for a semi auto pistol, it should be pretty easy to adapt to the 1522 platform. With this new pistol, I think 1522 magnum rifles and uppers would sell quite well.

I have suffered through a couple of YT.
Influencer Scootch showed no malfunctions.
Honest Outlaw had several failures to feed.

Scootch tested Remington and Hornady ammunition.

Honest Outlaw only tested CCI.

I wasn’t impressed at all with Honest Outlaw. Most of his video was him just shooting the gun with no real effort to test for accuracy. All it shows is his particular gun doesn’t like CCI. .22 semi-autos being ammo sensitive is well known.

I have a .22 L.R. Semi-automatic that will not feed Remington Golden Bullet. However it functions fine with three other brands of .22 L.R. So I not trash talk that gun. I will simply use the Remington is my other .22’s

He had trouble with a small sampling of a couple other types of ammo too and he did show that it was incredibly accurate out past 100 yards.

He said he loved pretty much everything about it except the cycling issues, which he also said might clear up with a break in.

He is planning a thousand round review.

I like to see new 22 mag offerings, but have to say that aesthetically this one is not very attractive. Wish it looked more like the M&P 2.0 and less like a Keltec. Where Walther got the WMP right was in making it look and feel like a PDP/PPQ.

my brother has the PMR30. he uses Federal 50 grain jacketed hollow point and never had a problem with jamming. i've shot it....a little noisy. it's kind of ugly.

I have plenty of CCI 22MAG for my PMR30 but when it wasn't readily available I found Hornady V-Max 30gr to be even better.

LOOKS good in person. Grip feels odd when you are used to centerfires at shorter OAL. Trigger pull a smooth but heavy roll-off.

Handled a couple today. That didn't occur to me about the grip. It most certainly is shorter, front-to-back, than the 5.7. Felt much better, even 'normal' to me. Perhaps akin to a typical single-stack 1911, P220, P38, etc. Low-price leader today was at 579. :D

I picked one up a couple of days ago.. Put 100 rounds of Armscor hp's thru it. Fed fine the rounds were not very consistent. About 5 of the hundred were hotter loads.Plan on trying CCI and Winchester and see what works best.

Isn’t he one of the YT gun “testers” who thinks it’s OK use a gun straight out of the box without a basic strip and clean? I always have a eye roll attack when one of them says that then has malfunctions during their test.
