Default M&P 22 magnum

New here and thanks for letting me join.
Picked up a new M&P 22 magnum this past Friday, gave it a good cleaning and lube. Took mags apart and sprayed with a dry lube(Otis) and loaded to 25 rds each, I have 4 mags.
Took it out yesterday, I have the mags numbered and kept track of any failures. The usual FTF (pull slide back a little and then fed fine) and just 1 FTE. I put 460 rds through it with a number of different ammunition.
The failures started going away after the first 150-200 rds.
The one failure that kept coming up was it seemed that the last few rounds in the mag, again only loaded 25 rds, so rds 21 through 25 would not come up high enough to feed. Mostly on round 22-23. No matter how hard I would tap the mag they wouldn’t come up. Take a round or two out, reload them and would be ok.
I’m wondering if the follower tab on the side of followers getting stuck or maybe the spring is just not strong enough. This did not happen every time though. But did happen with all ammo tested.
Otherwise the pistol ran very well with most of the ammo even with a red dot mounted.
Ammo used was
CCi maxi mags 40 tmj- 200 rds
CCi maxi mags 40 jhp- 25 rds
Hornady CD 45-25 rds
Speer gold dot 40 GDHP-25 rds
Federal game shok 50-25 rds
Hornady V max 30-25 rds
Winchester super X JHP 40-85 rds
Winchester Dynapoint cphp -50 rds
I was getting good groups with all ammo at 15 yards but I was more so testing function than grouping right now. Gun gets hot but I let it cool down while I reloaded mags.
I cleaned it once I got home and didn’t notice any shavings and barrel and shroud were really not to bad.
Way better gun than my other 30 rd 22 mag I had.
Thanks for any ideas on what I can do to get those last few rds to pop up higher consistently. I now have all mags with 30 rds waiting to be shot in a couple of weeks or so.

I got one a few months ago and decided to do a torture test of sorts on it. I took it out of the box and started shooting with no cleaning and no lube other than what was in it out of the box. So far I have close to 1K rounds through it of 7 different varieties, including stuff from the 80s, and have yet to have a single malfunction. The one failure to fire was a dud round and can't be blamed on the pistol. Ammo used was CCI 40 gr. HP, Winchester 40gr. HP, Armscor 40 gr. HP, PMC Predator 40gr. SP, Bitterroot .38gr. HP, Remington 40gr HP and it's favorite Federal 50gr. HP. I just put a red dot on it, so now I have to go get that sighted in. I'm going to run it as isuntil it starts jamming, or until can't take it anymore, just to see how far it will go.

Have you tried disassembling the mags and checking for burrs or rough spots on the followers and inside the mags? Mine work great with no lube, maybe clean the dry lube (Otis) from the mags and try that. Some polymer mags work better without lubrication.

Magazines do not need to be and should not be lubed. Period. Keeping them clean by disassembling them and wiping them down with a clean rag will suffice just as long as they aren't already full of crud and/or sticky from prior improper cleaning. If they are all gunked up, then a good degreasing will be needed.

Default M&M 22 mag issues

I have one with lots of issues. Called Smith and they did not say "we have bad mags, but offered replacement followers and springs". That fixed my problem. The bolt was dragging on follower and stopping.
Neat gun and lots of fun

I have seen a fellow with one out at the range the last three times I've gone (we seem to be on the same "old guy" schedule). His runs like a top. Decently accurate, too.

Default Last few rounds not always loading into chamber

I am having what sounds to be the same issue.
Just purchased 22Mag for my wife. Intermittently when 2 or 3 rounds left in magazine the round will not load into the chamber.
both stock mags have a 10 rnd blocker and both are doing this.
Not sure if problem is with the loading mechanism or the Mag.
But you are saying the follower and spring in the mag actual fix it.
It sure seems like when rnd will not feed it is all the way at the top of the mag???

I have had one for about five months now and have shot about 650 rounds through it. I have been amazed as I have not had the first malfunction yet. I just shot the magazines as they came, didn't disassemble them. A lot different than my other 30 round .22 mag pistol that I had... it wouldn't ever shoot more than five shots without stopping.

Mine is on it's way back to S&W. Out of the box, it wouldn't feed or eject. In more than 50 years of owning S&W products, it was my most disappointing experiences. I have worked on numerous magazines, mostly 1911 45 acp, to correct feeding issues but I don't have a clue where to begin with plastic mags. Obviously you can't bend the feed lips unless you permanently remove material, which could easily lead to killing the magazine completely. That's why I don't particularly care for polymer mags.
