Default Shield question

Hi everyone. I am in the process of getting a pistol permit in Nys. I had a pistol permit in another state before moving. I had a sheild 9mm 1.0 and a Glock 19. I enjoyed the sheild for the thin frame and how easy it felt to conceal. I have been thinking if I get my permit what will I purchase for my first pistol and I am thinking of a sheild plus optic ready. I already have holsters and mag carriers, ammo and some night sights from my old shield. I am thinking of staying with 9mm as I would think the 40 or 45 would be hard to manage in such a short barrel.

My question is about trigger control training. I am looking for something that lets the gun cycle or allow the trigger to be pulled many times during training like a sa/da pistol.

I had a Shield 9mm first and thought it was a bit snappy. Sold it and bought a Shield 45 about 5 years ago.

Still carry it everyday and consider it a much softer easier gun to shoot that my 9 was.

Sorry, no help on optics.

My wife and I have the Sheild 2.0 in 45 and 40 and have had no problem qualifying with either.

The Shield in any configuration or caliber are soft shooting, reliable, and accurate firearms. Sorry, but DA/SA capability just isn't available in the Shield, so racking the slide for practice is just part of life. The NY compliant Shield Plus OR comes with night sights, so you won't have to change those out, but everything else you have should be good.

I have a Shield 9 1.0 (5,000 rounds) and a Shield 45 (8,000 rounds), so I am very familiar with both. I strongly prefer the 45. It has surprisingly mild recoil for a small gun firing a big round and it is significantly more accurate than the 9. If your question about trigger control training refers to dry firing, yes, you'll have to rack the slide each time. However, the 45 has an advantage there as well. The 45 is way easier to rack than the 9. I suggest renting a Shield 45 at a range and checking it out. Good Luck!

Also a NYS CCW permit holder and retired Police Officer. I have both the M&P Shield 9 (1.0) and have fired the M&P Shield 2.0 at the range. Other than the capacity increase in the 2.0, the other changes including the trigger action were not overly discernible. Because you'll be a NYS CCW permit holder, you'll be limited to 10-round capacity magazines. If you feel the need to have the extra 3 rounds (over 7-rd the flush mount mag), then I would make the move to the 2.0. If not, you would be fine with the Shield 1.0, IMO. Good luck and be safe!

I always shot lightweight J-Frame 38’s. After inheriting a Shield 9, I don’t find it all that snappy. My 72 year old hands can shoot it just fine. My Glock 26 is heavier with more rounds and isn’t all that much different.

While GLockStore and a couple other companies sell the 'ResetTrigger' kit for the Gen4 Glocks, I don't believe anyone is selling them for the M&Ps.
LaserAmmo has some good laser-bullet and target sets.

I enjoy using the 'LaserAmmo' training cartridges with the ResetTrigger in my G26... the closest setup I've found to the Shield.
