Default Only one year warranty on M&P with Viking Tactical sights?

My daughter has an M&P VTAC. The fiber optic rod fell out of the front sight, and is gone. She emailed S&W and they told her the sight was only warranted for a year. Does that sound right? I told her to call them. She did, but said she was on hold for 25 minutes and had to go back to work.

What holds the front sight in? Would it require a sight pusher if she found a new sight?

Maybe call Trijicon and see if they can tell you what size the fiber optic is. .19? I can change out the fiber optic strands on my archery sights. I just bought a bunch of different color strands of fiber optic strands in different sizes and change them out as necessary. Just a thought.....

If you find out the diameter of the fiber optic rod used, then the following steps are all you need to fix it,

Cut a piece of fiber optic slightly longer than the sight.

Heat the end towards the shooter, and then pull towards the front to make a bulb.

Heat the part of the fiber optic at the front of the sight.

Here is a sub <2 minute video from Brownells on youtube showing the process:

Ask Viking Tactics what size fiber optic rod their S&W sights use. As previously noted, fiber optic rods are very easy to replace.

Regarding S&W's warranty:

Quote:
Smith & Wesson firearms are warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship. Any such defects of which Smith & Wesson receives written notice within one year from the date of purchase by the original owner, will be remedied by Smith & Wesson without charge within a reasonable time after such notification and delivery of the firearm as provided below.

Smith & Wesson’s Lifetime Service Policy begins after the warranty period has expired. ... The Lifetime Service Policy covers functional defects; it does not include the firearm’s finish, grips, magazines or sights.

The light pipes on fiber optic sights are a known issue. They fall out easily, and are usually easily replaced. Viking Tactical will probably sell her replacement, and it's likely she can easily install that herself.
