M&P 5.7 shoots way low
Hi All:
I recently bought a new M&P 5.7. Neat gun. The S&W seemed to be the best iteration of the 5.7 pistols currently available. I love the action and the capacity, and it’s a zippy little round with basically no recoil. However, I was targeting it today and found that both American Eagle and FN 40 grain ammo are shooting about 3-3.5” low at 15 yards. Anyone else have this issue? I have a Holosun 507k on the way so it’s not a huge deal, but I would like the sights to shoot to point of aim. Are there shorter sights available for the 5.7? Thanks!

Just ordered some lower sights from Dawson Precision, in case anyone else has this problem. Hopefully they work!

brewer1, thanks for the heads up on Dawson Precision. My gun shoots to point of aim, but I'd like to switch out the rear to a plain black sight with less angled edges, and after looking I see they have just what I want. However, the very helpful gentleman I spoke to at their 800 number didn't know for sure if the sights for their M&P and M&P Core would fit the slim slide of the 5.7.
Would you pleease let us know how it goes when you get yours?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Seems to be a problem with some of the new S$W MP 5.7 magazines, both mine when fully loaded, after 1 or 2 rds follower and spring stay compressed, don’t feed next round, there sending me new springs and followers, but I think the mags are slightly undersized

They're stamped and they made thousands of them. Not super polished on the inside.
Experienced the same thing when they were brand new but after filling and emptying a few times, they function perfectly now; the two that came with the pistol and the two I bought later.

I hope to get the new front sight mounted tomorrow. Just eyeballing it, it would seem to fit.
My magazines turned the gun into a single shot for the first box of ammo. After that, it’s run like a scalded cat. I put a Holosun 507k green dot on it and that works beautifully too. It’s a fun gun. Just got some FN 27 grain rounds and am eager to try those out. Still deciding if zi should try to reload for it as ammo os still so expensive.

Are you shooting low with or without the suppressor? How well does your barrel fit inside the shroud? Any signs of damage on the barrel crown? Is the thread protector tight?
3-3.5" low at 15 yd is pretty significant. If you have access to a laser boresighter you could check this very easily.
Be careful with aftermarket #6-32 x 1/2" screws. Some of them have too large a head to sit flush into the taper of the optic. I have a box of them and a bunch of red dots (SIG Romeo X Compact, Vortex Defender, Holosun EPS Carry, Holosun 407C) and their tapers are designed to basically fit their custom made screws.
Almost all these custom screws are made in China. SIG had their Romeo-X Compacts on backorder for months because the screws were out of stock in China.

I don’t have a suppressor so it’s not that
The thread protector was/is tight. In fact, S&W put red locktite on it at the factory and I had to use a heat gun to get it off! The barrel seems to fit fine in the shroud and it cycles fine. Windage was centered fine but again it was shooting 4” low with American Eagle and FN 40 grain V-max. I got two new sights from Dawson Precision which would seem to fit the dovetail BUT I haven’t been able to budge the front sight with a brass sight punch and hammer! I have a sight pusher but haven’t tried it; there’s not a lot of meat on the front sight so I may have to take it to my gunsmith to install. Or I may just forget it as I doubt I’ll take the Holosun off. The screws I got from Freedom Gorilla work fine. Thanks!

Dumb question but how are you using the iron sights? Are you using a combat hold (line up dots, with the dot covering your intended POI) or center hold (the tops of the iron sights are the center of your POI) or 6 o clock hold (where some people choose to keep their irons way low of the target for some reason)?
The S&W pistols are generally all combat hold. Meaning you line up the dots and place the dot over your intended POI.
If you are doing a 6 o clock hold, keeping your irons way low of the target then it could explain shooting low but at 15 yd that 4 inches is still a huge difference.

Hi All:
To follow up with this: I like a center hold or a 6 o’clock hold; I don’t see the point of a combat hold for anything other than a 2” belly gun. Even with a combat hold, mine would still be 3” low. My front sight wouldn’t budge with a brass punch and a dead blow hammer so I’m, uh, leaving it alone. The Holosun does a great job! It’ll do 4” groups at 100 feet. Pretty good for me.
