Default CSX Performance Center availability?

Has anyone heard when the PC CSX might become available? Have a Sig P938 BRG model which I like but prefer much higher capacity. Does anyone know someone “on the inside”? Thanks!

with all the bad press and bad reviews on U-tube about the CSX, I tend to believe that Smith and Wesson will do no further models until they revamp this one. But, who knows?

I don’t know what it is with the CSX but I can’t shoot it worth a damn. When first released by S&W I thought it was a great idea and bought one. Felt good in he hand, compact and single action. When I took it the range it proved reliable but my groups were ugly, I have M&P Shields in several models and calibers and I’m able to shoot them well. Not the CSX - I think it’s the trigger. Anyway, I sold it after the first range trip. I still love the concept and if there was a PC version I might give it another try.

Interesting to hear the negative vibe: a noted gunwriter friend told me to check one out and I was so impressed with the first one that I bought a second.

Both used, though: there are for-sure a lot of people shooting these and not loving them. On the other hand, I know a swelling number of old-timers (even older than me) who pick up the superbly engineered "Goldilocks" CSX (lefty friendly, carries as small as a PPK, shoots like a real gun, hits hard enough, holds enough rounds: 12+1!) and just stop carrying anything else. And that makes sense, given the CSX's genesis as almost a vanity project by a longtime firearms engineer - he made the gun he'd want, and a whole lot of us who are over our "Gun of the Month" phase see the sense in what he designed and implemented.

Now, as to ron4735's question of when the Performance Center will be making a CSX version: I'd guess NEVER. The model is essentially a Performance Center specialty design (a well-considered small and effective pistol for real carry), and other than plating it gold and putting some preposterously unnecessary gew-gaws like porting on it, there's nothing they could really do. Plus, as has been noted on this thread, they're not all that popular: I'm sure there's much more money to be made bejeweling the striker-gun of the moment and installing a flat trigger and RMR slot for those who consider these to be useful improvements.

By the way, you're right comparing it to the P938 - if my SIG-Sauer had allowed me to switch that magazine release to the other side (I'm a lefty, and the fixed left-side button was repeatedly bump-released during pocket and AIWB carry), I'd still be using that gun. Ah well - more rounds in the CSX.

I’m liking mine. Don’t shoot it any better than anything else tho. If someone offered a worthwhile trigger job I’d probably give it a shot.

I don’t know, I’ve watched plenty of positive reviews on you tube. One shows the cause of that reset thing found in the early pistols, and how it should be fixable. I understand the later pistols don’t have that glitch, and mine doesn’t. My trigger is fine; not a good 1911 or K frame trigger, but few pistols are.

Then again, I’ve been shooting Glocks forever, and that trigger sucks. I learned how to use it though.

The CSX is about the size and weight of the Airweight & steel J frames. Noticeably less recoil than the alloy Airweights, more than double the capacity per load, easier to see sights, factory grip is better, 9mm ammo is much more available today, etc…. Really, I should get another CSX.

I bought my CSX in late 2022. I received special permission to carry it during most of 2023 until my retirement at the end of September and definitely since then now that I don’t have department regulations to worry about.

I’m a huge 1911 fan and I carry (and compete with) variations a lot… a variety of 1911s (a bunch), and 2011s (Staccato C2 and single-stack old version “C”).

When I saw the CSX I thought it was a perfect niche pistol. It’s the theoretical answer to all the people loving on 2011s and high-cap single-action style pistols who need something in a very compact, but still effective package.

I watched the negative reviews but handled it in the shop and bought it. I will say there are downsides, and I think there’s room for improvement (are you listening S&W?!?!) but overall I love this little gun and it gets carried a LOT!

Downsides:

It (the slide) bites the web of my hand sometimes. I recently practiced with it, shooting a fairly spicy course of fire - and didn’t bite my hand at all, but it has in the past. If the thumb safety and “beaver tail” were contoured a bit differently it would likely mitigate this.

The trigger on my pistol is pretty crisp but not light. That’s not so bad for a small pocket (not often, but I have pocket carried it) sized pistol from a safety perspective, but it makes for a pistol that isn’t quite as easy to shoot well. I’ll take that trade for what it is.

My biggest gripe is the 12rd magazine. More accurately I suppose… with the spacer. I carry my CSX with the 12rd magazine. It works great and I have no issues. My reload is the 10rd magazine since it is “simple”, I wish the 12rd mag had a fixed spacer/basepad. There’s no CSX+ or something that takes the 12rd mag natively, so requiring a spacer that slides around is simply stupid. Trying to reload sucks period. Yes, it’s a small gun, and yes, it’s a high capacity small gun, but I like to know that I can do the things… and the things with reloads are hard with this.

Carrying the 12rd mag as a reload is a no-go for me… the spacer slides too much. Releasing the 12rd mag on a reload is inconsistent. Yuck. The 10rd mag is simple… stuff it and chamber it and go, but its purpose is more of a compact mag for carry of the pistol than a reload mag, so it’s short enough to be not-ideal.

At some point I might experiment with getting some more mags and somehow - glue, epoxy, etc. - lock down the 12rd spacer… but even then I feel like I’ll always suspect it breaking loose.

People complain about the reset. Those that do are probably firing off the reset and that’s a bad habit born of bad marketing and obsolete instruction. I find it to not be an issue at all.

So let’s talk about the good things:

It fills a niche. It’s small. Real small… and it is 1911ish and high-cap - ish… and it runs a decent round for effectiveness.

I have a Ruger LCP, and it’s an amazing pistol. For a super small pocket carry I think it’s fantastic. I’ve shot it a lot, carried it a lot, rusted it a lot during a move to Tennessee in the summer, and it’s my “work in the yard around the house” pistol. The CSX is the step up from that. It’s the “corner market” pistol, and often even more of an EDC. It’s the easy button, and when I carry something else it’s usually because I want to be an enthusiast (1911s) or I want specific capabilities (pistol optics, WMLs, etc.).

For something I carry on a regular basis to protect myself and my family… with the ability to make head shots on demand at 7 yards quickly… and living squarely in my lifestyle, the CSX is rad.

So where does that leave me with this pistol? I love it. I’d like to see some improvements, but at the same time, there’s nothing else that will match its consistency with 1911/2011 pistols, performance with capacity, and concealability.

Lastly I’ll give my best recollection of reliability. The easy thing is to say the pistol has never malfunctioned. Wow… That’s boring.

So really the only thing is to break down what ammo has been used… 147gr Federal HST… around 300 rounds. Ball… 115 and 124gr… total of about 400 rounds. Not a crazy amount and piddly compared to other pistols I shoot on a regular basis.

I’m happy with the HST 147gr round, but if I decide I need a lighter/faster bullet I’ll look at the 124 gr HST.

Frigin’ great little gun…

Haven't heard anything about a PC CSX. I would be surprised to see that happen due to the weak market demand for the pistol.

I love my CSX as is. I put new sights on it but, other than that, nothing. It is my off duty carry and I hardly notice it in an Urban carry holster with an extra mag. Some people are too picky. When the dudu hits the fan I don't know that people would be going, gosh that was a lousy trigger(I hope dudu is not a band word that I will get slapped for).

Just don't under stand it, when you are under stress defending your lilfe or the lives of those around you are you really worried about trigger or recoil?

Any one want to get rid of their CSX let me know. It will be at a discounted rate of course, after all it is a piece of junk.......RIGHT!?!?!

I need to see if I can rent a CSX. It is very much like my Star Firestar in size, and I could not present that pistol from a holster the same way twice. The size of the grip just didn't quite work with my skinny hands and long fingers. I'm concerned the CSX will be the same.

SoCalDep, I have posted previously about a "fix" for the "sliding sleeve" issue and I have been carrying my CSX daily now for several months and I my magazines have been dropped and not babied at all thru numerous range sessions and the "fix" is working out perfectly.
Here is a link to the post describing the "fix".

Those hated CSX magazine sleeves.

It is still a stupid design and whoever came up with it at S&W ought to be flogged.

I really like My CSX. After about 1000 rounds the trigger has smoothed out a lot and I have no problem skipping clay pigeons around the berm at 50 yards. 10 yards is more than satisfactory as far as accuracy is concerned and the little gun is becoming My carry gun occasionally and maybe My EDC.
