I bought this pistol, new, about 10 years ago. And, I have shot hundreds of rounds through it. Now, I would like to mount a red/green dot on it. It came with 5 mounting plates and screw sets, but I am worried that today's sights have changed significantly since these mounting plates were included.
Looking for advice on how to find a dot sight that will absolutely work and what to consider when trying to mount it. TIA
Well, I just put a Viridian RFX45 (RMR to ACRO footprint) on my M&P 40 S&W 1.0 PC C.O.R.E. and love it!
My mounting plates are metal (as should be yours) and those basic footprints really haven't changed... There's nothing hard about mounting a red dot: just follow the brand's suggestions re: cleaning and torque values.

P.S. A Vortex Viper (Doctor/Burris footprint) is pretty hard to beat and there is one on $ale for under $125 at Optics Planet right now: the Vortex Warranty is really one of the best!
We had a RM02 on my wifes m&p CORE but after she spent some range time with a holosun green circle dot one was ordered to replace the RM02. The gen one uses the trijicon plate for the Holosun. Today there are several models with green dot and circle dot to pick from so good luck .
