They can be entertaining but are far from reality. These days they're pretty much clickbait for their sponsors and views.

I've seen Sigs frozen in blocks of ice and then hammered to get them free, ARs dropped from helicopters, Glocks buried in swamps.

As tough as these weapons appear on video, they often don't survive a field strip by some new owner who didn't RTFM.

It's a torture test, some of you need to get over it. It was cool.

I swear some people on these forms will complain about anything no matter what. I definitely wouldn't want some of you living next door to me that's for sure.

Not directed at you OP.

Is hail truly a threat to the proper functioning of any firearm? The likelihood of a hailstone large enough to possibly threaten the proper functioning of a pistol (i.e. a baseball/grapefruit sized hailstone) is truly remote.

It is pure entertainment made for the masses. Many on here are serious competitive shooters, people who do or have carried a handgun for a living, serious collectors, handgun hunters, military veterans, pistolsmiths, etc. They tend not to get excited about such things.

I know they don't mean much as they are incredibly unrealistic but man the M&P is so durable. It survived 3 months of being outside during hail, rain, heat, cold, mud test, freeze test. It also survives getting thrown, shot and ran over with a bulldozer

And the most painful one:

What a waste. I mean, what if I want to store my guns outdoors ALL winter, in a block of muddy ice, under my bulldozer. These tests do me no good at all!!

And what if I want to retrieve them with C4 in an emergency? How do I know they'll be any good at all??

Honestly ...

So thinking something is cool or entertaining in the shooting world makes one not a "serious shooter?

LOL nice try.

Swing and a miss.

That's like saying a musician is not serious if they like music.

I know a guy who gave his M&P 2.0 5" 40,000 rounds of whatever ammo he could get. He had at least a couple of double charges, and got it hot enough to melt the fiber optic front sight insert on a few occasions while putting on classes.

His barrel's rifling was pretty much gone after that 40k, but the pistol still functioned.

You missed the target! I just tried to explain why many here wouldn't be stoked about silly torture tests of guns. If that is your jam, fine.

When buying a vehicle I never base my purchasing decision on which one can run the longest without engine oil or coolant, or which one has tires that last longest when under inflated by 15 PSI.

Wild. Great SN! Lol

Torture test can be scewed toward the one you want to win........Not much interest in tearing stuff up......So I don't watch/believe any filmed torture test.

I don't think so. Garand Thumb is a hardcore Glock guy. He was bummed it failed

Whether you support this kind of testing or not, firing a gun that has been subjected to this kind of treatment with your hands IS A STUPID THING TO DO!

If the chamber had been deformed or the barrel, which may not be obvious to the naked eye, that thing could have become a hand grenade and cost him dearly.

I shoot competitions, and I hunt and protect myself with my firearms, but according to you because I might want to sit and watch some kind of torture test, that makes me not a serious shooter?

Give me a break.
