I just bought a nice used Shield 9 Plus. When I manually rack a loaded round with the mag removed, the round simply falls into the mag well and does not eject out the top port. I can rack it vigorously all day and it always does the same thing. I've never had this problem on previous Shields or any other semi autos that I've owned. Is this an ejector problem or just a quirk with this gun? I haven't shot it yet.

It could be a weak or damaged extractor, but before I jumped to any conclusions, I'd take it to the range a see what it does. Also, put a mag with one round in it and load that round from the mag. Leave the mag in place and try ejecting the round.

If you're putting a round in the chamber by hand and easing the slide closed on it, the extractor may not be grabbing the rim as it should hence your round dropping down the mag well.

Not to be mean about this, but you're playing with your toy.

The round you're manually ejecting still has the heavier than everything else after you fired the projectile stuck in the front of it, and working the slide manually will never get it to go back as fast as it does when you fire a live round.

PS, 1 AM where I am and I have had a few adult beverages, but I'm guessing what you're seeing is par for the course when it comes to manually ejecting a round from a micro-9 pistol :)

FWIW, when at the range and shooting, the easiest way to clear the thing in the situation you brought up is to drop the magazine and work the slide, where the problem will drop through the mag well onto the shelf/floor/ground as it gets pulled out and freed up. Not the most "tacti-cool" way to do it, but it works :)
