Wife bought a new Shield (we live in Calif...), and the trigger is horrible...Do these triggers get better with age or should I look into replacing it and with what....Thanks....

Can you describe in more detail, what you mean by "horrible"?

Typically, they do get better (smoother) with use.

Take the slide off, insert an empty magazine (to disable the mag safety), pull the trigger (several times). Does it feel gritty? Smooth? Watch the sear and trigger bar movement as you pull/release.

Turn the slide (still off the frame) over to the underside. Grab a small punch (bamboo skewer, whatever) and depress the striker block and release a few times. Also press from an slight angle (like on the chamfer). Does it feel gritty/notchy?

Put it all back together. Now dry fire it a bunch of times. Sadly, this is a bit of a pain due to the mag safety. You can pull the slide back far enough to reset, but not engage the slide lock with a bit of practice.

Also make sure you give it a good cleaning and lubing.

As far as aftermarket triggers, Apex tactical seems to be the preferred. If you CC it, check with your local IA to make sure they allow mods to carry guns.

There are some things you can do beside dry/live fire to polish the surfaces but I would suggest you hold off until you've sent a few hundred rounds through it.

I have a 1.0 Shield (totally stock). Trigger was pretty gritty when new. A few hundred rounds later, it's pretty smooth. It still feels "stagey". I can feel when the trigger bar first contacts the striker block, then the sear, then a tiny bit of creep, then click or bang.

It is both gritty (rough) with a rather long reset. At no point in the trigger pull is it smooth, my gunsmith said (as you did) put several hundred rounds thru it before investing anymore money in it....She was with my daughter when it was purchased, so I had no input...Been dry firing it a lot, and it doesn't seem to make much difference...It sounds a lot like yours, so I'll give your recommendation's a try....Thanks

I have replaced several sheild triggers with the Apex action enhancement kit. It's a world of difference. Clean break, positive reset, no grittiness. I bought 3 of these for my pistols and have since sold one. I have an extra kit listed on the forum for $135. It's for an original Shield not a 2.0.

My 9mm EZ has a very good trigger compared to most. But, it aint striker fired.
