Smile home, home on the range...

Well, the snow finally melted and it kind of dried up a bit, but was cool and breezy, but what the heck, time to make some noise and see how the m&p-10 works with a scope and bipod and start breaking it in a bit. I had 8 ASC 10 round magazines loaded with 3 different types of ammo to see how they each fed and flew. I started sighting in with 4 mags of ppu 145gr fmj-bt. bad start, first round failed to feed, it got far enough that the point of the bullet was just about at the locking ring, had to tap it with the breach and it finally finished stripping. the next 39 fed fine, though i could not get them to make any kind of a group from 100yds, maybe it was the wind, but they were all over the targets. next were 2 mags of brown bear 140gr ab308sp(soft point), these are about 3/4 jacketed with the tip left bare lead... these all fed fine but again no decent grouping. i wonder if the soft point gets deformed by the feed process?? Finally i shot 2 mags of hornady steel match 155gr bthp. Finally some decent groups, 10 rounds within about 4" was my best with these in the wind... unfortunately they had 3 failures to feed. all 3 failed to catch the rim and the bolt scraped the side of the cartridge leaving an empty chamber, click, no bang... wait for it... wait for it... i hate that wait! then check and nothing in the chamber. each round fed on the second try though. Interesting time for only the second time shooting this gun. i'm not sure i like the right side bolt release, maybe its just my finger was tired but i couldn't release it without taking my hand off the grip, so i used the left side one most of the time. ah well, time to go clean now.
