New M&P 10 mag drop
Hi y'all.
I'm a new owner of a CA compliant M&P 10. I took it to the range for the first time and could not get any mag to stay in past one or two rounds.
Has anyone else had an issue with mag drop?
I tried the stock S&W and two different DPMS 10 rd mags, different ammo, etc. Any recommendations besides send it back to the factory?

are you putting the mag in with the bolt latched open? i found it was very hard to put a mag in with the bolt closed. try an empty mag, put it in and then try to pull on it to see if it comes out. you should also be able to operate the mag release and see if it is free to move without a mag in place.

Just because you hear the mag go "click" when you put it in dosent mean its seated properly. ALWAYS, with any AR platform, give it a second hefty slap on the bottom of the mag and then pull on it to make sure its seated correctly

Merganser1....i too have had the same issue with my M&P 10. I was having problems with FTL when I noticed that the mag was slipping. Someone suggested I tighten the BB. went back to the range but had to leave w/o testing if that worked(too many dads at the range today). Let me know if you find a solution to this. I too have a CA compliant weapon that I bought a couple of months ago.

I tried slamming the mag, bumping the mag, I may have whispered sweet nothings, but no dice. I've never had a firearm drop mags like this. I think that it may have something to do with the BB, but I am not an armorer. Just wondering if this is a common problem or not.
I'll it back to the gun shop for checkout and let you all know what the problem was/is. Thanks for responding!

I have the same problem with my M&P 10. The first time I took it out I only put 40 rounds through it, but it was fine. Yesterday, it would not go through an entire 10 round mag without dropping at some point. Tried 2 different PMAGS, and the factory one. Its not that its not in properly, it will not pull out once its in. It only is a problem after firing. Does yours chamber the next round before dropping the mag? Mine does not. I'm really frustrated with this. I bought a new bullet button assembly last night, and the spring seems much better than the stock one. I'm hoping this solves the problem, as the stock spring is really "soft" in my opinion. Taking it out this morning, will let you know what happens.

Great news to report. Replacing the spring seems to have solved the mag dropping problem. Put 50+ rounds through it this morning and it worked flawlessly. I'm really glad, because i like this rifle alot!! All I have to say is screw CA and these stupid bullet buttons.

mikedee, did you have to have your spring replaced by a gunsmith? S&W said they will fix it for me if I will send it back to them(they did say there is a problem with the BB).Is it worth shipping it back to them or will it be cost effective for me to just have it done locally? Thanks

Ok. Just received the rifle back from S&W. they replaced the spring and catch and put a few rounds through it at their range. Hopefully all fixed.
