Default .338 Federal ?

Has anyone had an M&P10 upper barreled for .338 Federal yet?
I am guessing that it may be to soon for there to be anyone offering aftermarket barrels.
I doubt that S&W will chamber .338 Federal or other M&P10 compatible cartridges anytime soon.

I'm curious as to how easy it'll be to swap barrels in these myself. I've been holding off on a 308 based AR for awhile, but am ready to jump into it with both feet. I want to be able to run a 308 upper for the all purpose/tacticool rig, 243 win or 260 rem for everything from prairie dogs to deer, then a 338 fed for the big furry creatures. I'm sitting on the fence with the M&P10 to see what options are out there on building some uppers, but it looks like a great platform for what I want, especially at the cost point.

The following is S&W's answer to my question "How long before S&W offers uppers and/or barrels for the S&W M&P10?", posted on another forum

"Hi, We currently do not have any other options in terms of calibers or barrel types for the M&P10 at this time. As with all new product roll outs there may be line extensions in the future.
Thanks! S&W"

Thanks for sharing their reply! My understanding is the bolt is a proprietary design, and I'm assuming that means there is also a proprietary barrel which limits custom options a bit further.

I'd be real amazed if S&W actually rolled out a M&P in .338 Federal, or my preference, .338 Lapua, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Cheaper to just go and buy a .338 Rifle.
