Well after a several week wait my X-Produce 50rd. drum for my MP-10 finally arrived. Took me a few days to get some range time but finally I did and here is my thoughts pro and con. Be prepared for a long read.

First of all as expected it is not cheap at $285 plus shipping. I have spoke with the owner of X-Products, James Malarkey (not sure if that last name is real?) several times and he contributes the cost to the facts that it has such a current low production rate and that it is 100% all American made plus they only use top quality steel and materials which I can attest to. These dudes are well made and should last forever.

Also it is not light at 4lbs 4ozs. loaded with 50rds of 7.52 x 50 ball ammo. However it is not overpowering and balances out pretty well. Another point is that it is a tad shorter in profile than my MagPul 20 round mags.

A big negative to come might be the fact that it is a pain in the azz to load. The first 30 or so rounds are not too bad but the closer you get to 50 rounds the tighter the spring gets and the tougher it is to load. Let me put it another way, if this is the only mag that you own and you find yourself in a life or death situation then you will probably be dead before you get this dude loaded. I hear that there will be a speed loaded available soon.

Range time:
I used only CBC 7,62 x 51 ball ammo but it is made and labeled for .308 on the drum. I just happened to have 4 50rd. boxes of this stuff and wanted to run 4 mags to see how it cycled. The manual specifies that it will run either .308 or 7,62 x 51.

The first run chambered one round and failed to load the second. After reading the manual and looking at the drum I realized that I had failed to "level" the first round. There is a small tab at the round base that they refer to as a kicker tab that and once the drum is loaded I failed to ensure that it was in the proper place and the first round level before I shoved it in the well. After that point the rest of the drum ran smoothly with no hiccups. In all honestly I intended to run 4 drums but due to the need to shoot some other guns I took the range and the time it took to load this thing I only ran 2 complete drums.

Final thoughts:
Dude is pretty expensive, a pain to load but would be a real asset in the right time and place. When SlideFire gets their new stock for the AR-10 on the market this dude would throw some big lead down range fast!(X-Products makes 5 different models of drums but the one for the MP-10 is the X-25 model.) Pics next.
