I'm thinking of getting a M&P10.

While I will no doubt add a quality optic I do like the idea of some type of iron sights.

The 311314 is about $160-$185 more than the 311308. It has the Troy folding sights and Magpul MOE stock.

What's the general consensus as to the whether there is any benefit to the MOE over the CAR and if the 311314 packages is worth the extra price.

I've not tried a MOE stock on the M&P-10, but I found the M4 style stock to be painful with the recoil of the 308


I replaced the M4 stock with a CTR


Much more comfortable, but I didn't like the cheekweld with the scope. I replaced that with a MagPul Fixed Carbine stock


Haven't shot it with the Fixed Carbine stock yet and plan to add a thicker recoil pad.

The MOE stock should be a better choice for the big Smith than the M4 stock, especially when you add the thick recoil pad. Handguards are a matter of personal preference. I like the MOE handguards better than the round style. If the MOE version gets you what you want more economically than buying everything separately, then it's a no brainer

I have the 311314, and the decision for me was pretty easy. I knew I wanted troy battle sights, and I also knew that I had no intention of putting a free float on it. The MOE stock is quite comfortable while shooting. I didn't think it would make any difference, but the rubber recoil pad it comes with really does help. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I knew I wouldn't replace any of the magpul stuff as it comes, so for the the price of the troy sights, I get all the other stuff I like. If I was going to FF, or planned on replacing the other magpul hardware, it would not have been worth it to me to go the 314 route. I hate the look of standard A2 handguards... I think the magpul stuff looks a lot better.

Several years back I had a FAL and shot it a fair amount.
It was a terrific rifle and I can’t remember anything about it that I didn’t like. With its adjustable gas system it would shoot anything I put in it.

I had a guy that kept asking to buy it and one day I gave him what I thought was a ridiculous price in an effort to stop his offers. He peeled off a roll of Ben’s and that was the last of my FAL.

I’ve never had an AR type rifle but have had a number of .223 varmint rifles, all of which I have sold leaving me with several hundred rounds of custom .223 ammo. I started to buy an M&P15T last week to shoot up the ammo and a guy asked to buy the ammo so I didn’t get the M&P15T.

I’ve been selling off some guns that we haven’t shot recently or had plans to shoot and have moved about fifty-two in the last year so I figured a new M&P10 might be in order.

There have been a few who cautioned against the M&P10 because of parts interchangeability concerns. However, after some research and reading RRA’s statement on parts interchangeability between the various manufacturers “… commonality is by chance or opportunity, and not by design”, that seems like a pretty moot point to me. Also, I have no plans to make any significant changes to the rifle anyway.

Yep, parts interchangeability between .308/7.62 ARs seems to be more coincidental than by design. Having AR15 like interchangeability would be nice but I doubt it will ever happen.

Then again, outside of the AR family, interchangeability is pretty much all bit nonexistent. So, compared to that the SR25 family does pretty well.
