Ammo Sources?
Hi;
Finally bought a S&W M&P10 and trying to figure out where and what to buy for ammo. I won't be doing reloading so I will be needing to shop for the manufactured stuff.
From some of the posts I read I will have to experiment to see what flavor my rifle prefers before stocking up on any brand/grain. I see Federal Gold Medal Match mentioned a few times so I will try to pick some of that up. I know to avoid the steel case stuff.
My choices for local sources would be wally world, Bass Pro, military exchange, and local gun shops. I have never ordered ammo off the internet so I do not know what type of restrictions or volume deals I would have to meet.
Tips or recommendations?

Online ammo purchase restrictions......if any... are set by your state. So know your laws. Otherwise order one box or 1 million rounds, the online store doesn't care.
I almost exclusively use SGammo or Target Sports USA. They are probably THE cheapest online ammo sellers
SGammo shipping is flat rate regardless of your location. Other companies may have slightly lower prices but their shipping kills any deal
Target Sports USA does not change shipping on whole case purchases. SGammo does but the prices are only a dollar or two different. I use both because sometimes one will be running a special while the other doesn't

No restrictions in SC.
Was impressed with SGammo and LAX, particularly the latter. LAX's .308 reloads must be pretty popular as they were out of stock on six of the seven categories. Wish they offered the reloads in smaller quantities as I would hate to buy bulk on something I have never shot.
Thanks for the responses.

Just go to wikiarms or better yet get the iphone app for low price ammo comparisons. Not ideal for shopping for the good stuff.

I second Freedom Munitons in Idaho. I met many of them at Triggercon last month in Tacoma, WA. And someone at Freedom is on the SAAMI board of directors.
They frequently run free shipping on orders over a hundred, and for your first order. Get on their e-mail list. I get sale specials daily from them every evening.

For easy comparison of prices, go to AMMOSEEK.COM. Punch in your search parameters for ammo and you will find dozens of options. You can also do firearms searches for best prices.
I order mostly from SGAmmo and Freedom Munitions, but have dealt with other suppliers for #4 Buck, slugs, etc. Even with nominal shipping costs, Wally World and such don't have a patch on internet suppliers. I've never had any problems with an order. The longest wait for delivery I've had has been about a week.

To the point of factory ammo type - I've found mine likes Hornady 168 grain BTHP and shoots .75" at 100 yards. Now put Fiocchi softpoints and its maybe 6" inches at 100 yards. Nothing else holds under 1" except the fore mentioned.
Generally I hand load after I've gotten close with a factory load so most of my small quantities are from my LGS which gives me internet pricing without the shipping charges. Large orders (1000 +) of other calibers is Lucky Gunner or someplace like that online.

+1 for Hornady (mcap1655). OP: I use Target Sports, and for watch sales and for free shipping at other on-line sites like Brownells. Outdoors Limited has good prices, though no free shipping. AmmoGrab is another source to see who has sales going on.
I'll have to check SGAmmo as it has several recos here in this thread. I am not confident ordering on line from just any old company selling ammo. Those I mentioned here , have what I order in stock, and get it shipped promptly. Good luck!

Happened to get a flyer from Bass Pro where they were advertising a couple of brands of ammo as having rebates available. I was only able to get one brand and the last box of 150 grain left on the shelf today. When I got home noticed there was nothing on the receipt on how to get the rebate. Did a cursory look at BPs website and did not notice anything listed as a rebate link so I clicked on the BP chat box and texted with them about trying to get the rebate. They sent me a link to the ammo maker's rebate that I printed out. Then I noticed the link had a purchase by date of 30 Sept. I went back into BP chat and the 2nd person I talked to looked at the same link and said yep the by date is 30 Sept. Didn't know what else to tell me. ??? I looked online and BP flyer shows the rebate being good through Dec. I called their customer service and told them my situation and told them to look at their current flyer. They had me go to their web site and had me type in a series of numbers to go to their rebate form which is good until Dec. Long story short is that they do not make it very simple for a customer to recoup a rebate that they offer. Every other business I have dealt with typically prints out some receipt form at time of purchase for the customer to get their rebate but BP does just the opposite. Another fair warning with BP is the "chat" dept does not have a clue what the rest of the company is doing.

Targetsports USA is what I've been using.
My rifle likes the federal gold medal match the best so far. Best group was 1/2 inch but overall, there have been plenty of 3/4 inch groups. It also likes Hornaday AMAX, and for these two types of ammo, surprisingly it shoots 168, 175, and 155 gr all darn well. I've only had the rifle out a hand full of times, so it's still early.
Mine did not really like the Sig Sauer elite ammo though, and unlike another poster above, the Hornaday custom 168 gr HPBT is just "ok" in my rifle and definatley not as consistant as the gold medal match.

I buy perfecta from Wal-Mart when they have it. Brass case, Lead FMJ bullet, full NATO. I don't buy **** from russians, so the WOLF is not going to happen in my world.
