New M&P10 won't fire or eject rounds
I just got a new M&P 10 Sport. I cleaned and lubed it according to the instruction booklet. When I chambered a round I could pull the trigger until it "fired," but the round did not actually fire. The round was stuck in the chamber and no amount of pulling on the charging handle would eject it until I "mortared" the gun to eject the round. I tried with another round and had the same problem. I disassembled and reassembled the rifle several times but had the same result each time. The round chambered correctly but I couldn't eject the round without mortaring it.
Have I assembled the rifle incorrectly or is this a manufacturing issue? I'm using Federal Premium 168 grain 308 win ammo.

That sounds like a manufacturing issue. Since you say it's new, give S&W customer service a call and make arrangements for them fix it for you. It has a lifetime warranty on it as long as you don't modify the rifle.

I have to ask how much experience you have with AR 10 style rifles. Especially on a new one, the bolt has to be released by slingshotting or the paddle to fully chamber a round. "Riding the bolt" won't work. The failure to fire may have been caused by the bolt not being closed all the way. These rifles do take a mighty strong pull to manually eject a chambered round, especially when new.
Before sending it to S&W, verify that the ejector will compress flush with the bolt face. It's pretty hard to push so be careful. Also try different ammo.

If you can pull the trigger and hear the hammer strike the firing pin? it has to be in battery, with the bolt fully engaging the barrel extension.
If that is indeed the case? check the primer for hammer strike and post a picture.

So you chambered a round by "slingshotting" the bolt or using the bolt release and you get a click? instead of a BANG!???

This is not meant to be insulting, but you guys with problems are using the mag to load the rounds, not just dropping a round in the chamber and closing the bolt.
If you are getting rounds jammed in the chamber, I have to ask what ammo is being used. Commercial, home reloads?
