Bipod - what to get?
I'm looking to get a Harris type Bipod I am trying to decide what length I should get, 6"-9" or the 9"-13". Does anyone have any pictures of this style of bipod?
Any help with the cheapest place to get them?
Thanks for the advice

What type of shooting do you plan on doing with the bipod?
That would dictate the length of bipod you will need to get. If off a bench you won't need much. Varmint hunting while sitting in the field may need something a little bigger.

Bipod Choice
Keep in mind when getting a bipod that the MP15-22 has a long magazine which will keep the gun several inches off the bench. I have not measured the required distance, but it would need to be considered. I'm not sure 6" or even a 9" would get you up far enough to clear the long mag.
I wish S&W offered a 10 round shorter mag for bench shooting. The longer mag is nice but gets in the way when trying to shooting from a seated bench position.

I plan to do mostly bench shooting. and I will be mounting to the rail not the barrel.
I just wasn't sure if the 6-9 would be long enough to get passed the magazine or if the 9-13 would be too long and awkward to shoot from a bench

9" bipods mounted on the forearm would be high enough to clear the magazine when shooting off a bench. You just need to decide if you want 9" to be your maximum length or minimum length.

Personally, I dont see a need for a Bi-pod on a 100 (or less) yard gun, maybe its just me though. If you must, its hard to beat a harris, tho, Im not sure its appropriate for this gun.

If you are looking to bipod a 15-22, Google CAA and look at the ones they offer. They offer several that will mount to the foregrip's bottom rail and have a 3" rail mounted on the bottom of the bipod. There is a short vidio extolling it's virtues.

Sorry I should have mentioned it was for a 15-22. I went to the local gun shop today and found a cheap version of a Harris 6-9 that went for $40. It looks identical to the Harris but $25 cheaper. Luckily they also had a 15-22 on the rack so they let me lay the gun on top of the bipod to get an idea how it would look. In the 9" position the bipod was just long enough to clear the magazine hanging down and tilt the gun upwards slightly. Now I am just waiting for an adapter from ebay so I can mount it.

I just received my bi-pod from CAA. It is the 8" to 12" model with the spring loaded legs in the fully closed position you would be good to aim and fire at a target on the same plane as the barrel. With the legs at the fully extended position you could probably get 30 degrees above vertical.
My next range trip is on Sunday morning, I'll let everyone know how it works out.

I just got the adapter for mine today. I did go with the 6-9" and I think it may be just a tad shorter than I would like. When fully extended the gun does not rest on the butt of the gun, it rests on the mag because it hangs down so far. This makes the gun not very steady when sitting by itself on a table. However when shooting you do still have about a 20 degreee rise above the horizontal. I will try to get some pictures up tomorrow when i get a chance.

Since you got the adapter, Walmart sells one with the Winchester logo that is 9 to 12". Good to try out for height, and Walmart has a generous return policy.

Yeah well, at the walmart near me you need to be packing heat to go there. We've had a few shootings in the parking lot, too many "wanabe gangstas" moving into the area from new york city.
Anyways I finally got some pictures. As you can see in the pictures the magazine is too long for the 9" bipod and the gun rests on it. By placing two magazines under the back end you just barely get the weight off of the magazine.

Didn't intend to send you to a combat zone. The 9-12 would solve your problem of mag length.

Hey thanks, I honestly don't remember what the brand was. I got it from a local shop. I'll try to find the packaging that it came in. It was $30ish from a place that has high prices. I have seen others around that i would guess are the same thing on ebay and amazon. The place also had a CAA ($35) and an Armalite ($120). All three looked exactly the same so I went with the cheap one.
