My impressions of changing the carbine buffer in the M&P-15 to a Spike's Tactical ST-T2 buffer:
a) There is a lot less noise in the receiver extension/buffer tube (no weights to bounce around inside the buffer)
b) The recoil impulse is smoother (again, because of powdered metal rather than separate weights in the buffer, as well as the greater mass of the buffer compared to the original)
c) The felt recoil is a smidgen (a highly precise measure of quantity) less than the original buffer
Items (a) and (b) are quite significant changes; (c) is just noticeable but not as big a change as (a) and (b)

" A benefit of the additional spring/buffer weight is that it slows down the unlocking and extracting tempo, increasing the locked chamber dwell time and allowing for much more reliable extraction and ejection. This is because the longer dwell time allows the chamber pressure to recede more, as well as transferring heat from the case to the chamber walls. It also offers a softer-shooting rifle because the recoil impulse is transmitted over a longer period of time, hence lower ft-lbs/second received at the shoulder."

I have a home made shorty AR. After reading many positive comments, I tried a 9mm buffer. I noticed a definate smoother recoil impulse, and the empties are dropped at my side.
Have not noticed any negatives after a couple hundred rounds.
However...My favorite set up for my shorty is to replace the CAR style stock with an M16A1 fixed stock...with rifle buffer. I just find the shorter M16A1 (as opposed to A2) stock fits me perfectly, and the weapon handles very well set up this way. The collapsable stock is great for storage or use with body armour or thick clothing or changing LOP for different shooters, but the fixed stock is better for shooting...for me.

I run my M&P15T with the spikes buffer and a Sprinco extra power CS spring. Very smooth compared to stock. Doesn't affect accuracy, but the less perceived recoil helps with follow on shots. Quality of Spikes buffer is great.
The M&P15 is overgassed as they come from the factory with an oversize gas port. .070-.075 vs USGI specced .062.
I'd recommend the upgrade to everyone for a bit softer shooting rifle while still retaining 100% reliability.

nice brother, you know were i can get a sprinco spring at i have been looking for one but no luck at any sites. would the flat or round spring be better im not decided yet, i know the flat spring is longer but round one is standard size! any input?

I've been running a Spike's ST-T2 buffer in my M&P15T for more than 6 months and well over 1,000 rounds and here's my take:
1. Quality of the product is very high. Machining , finish, etched markings - all show a high degree of attention to detail. Weight is a bit heavier than a standard H buffer but not quite as heavy as a H2. Functions flawlessly and, as mentioned in an earlier post, it's quiet in cycling due to the lack of reciprocating weights. Concept seems similar to a dead-blow type hammer. My M&P15T cycles a bit smoother, quieter, and perceived recoil impulse is reduced slightly.
2. There has been no change in the inherent accuracy of the weapon as a result of this product. This said the heavier buffer in combination with a BCE Battle Comp muzzle brake has shaved time off follow-up shots by smoothing / reducing recoil impulse (as perceived) and practically eliminating muzzle rise. The Spike's buffer plays only a small part in this improvement but it's not insignificant IMO. Accuracy on quick follow-up shots under stress has improved and the ST-T2 buffer has played a role in this improvement.
3. I can't say. I can tell you that my M&P15T cycles everything I feed it flawlessly.

Tactical Springs & Machine Gunners Lube - part number 25004 (Red) is the one I have in my M&P15T.
