M&P 15 sport ammo
Just picked up my M&P 15 Sport today, can't wait to get to the range! I know you guys are probably tired of ammo questions but I'll ask anyway- are you Sport owners sticking to 5.56 NATO exclusively or are you also shooting 223 Remington-if so do you notice any difference. I picked up a box of American Eagle AR 223 on the way home and was going to try this first but was wondering if I should stick to 5.56 NATO exclusively? Thanks for any help anyone could give!

I really like the Federal 62gr XM855LC. This is overrun "green tip" 5.56, same stuff we use (well, used to use) in the military. Very good stuff. That said, when I shoot factory ammo I primarily shoot Fed American Eagle 223. There's little difference between "5.56" and "223" for simple range shooting. Buy what's cheap and buy in bulk.

i use ae223 alot. i tried the xm193 stuff too. didn't really notice a difference, lil more recoil. accuracy was very similar. both function without problems. 900rds shot so far. i tried this tula ammo, dollar cheaper/box. underpowered, got like 4 shells stuck in the chamber out of 80rds, had to borrow a cleaning rod to force em out. it must be that polymer coating they put on the steel cases. accuracy wasnt bad, but not very impressive. the most accurate ammo i tried was winchester 45gr varmit hp

Congratulations on your new rifle! The Sport will shoot either .223 or 5.56.
I've shot a bunch of American Eagle, Ultramax and even 500 rounds of Silver Bear. Never had a hiccup. I just received a case of Federal from UPS. I agree with buying in bulk if you can. It goes fast.
My Sport has been perfect for me. Enjoy yourself and post some pics and a range report when you can.

Glad with your purchase. I also use AE 223 and Federal 100 bulk 223 at walmart.

Love my Sporter!
I've shot a variety of manufactured ammo and my own re-loads and the gun is happy! As well as I.
What a great entry level AR!
Try different ammo and keep her clean and she'll serve ye well.

My sport has about 2,200 WPA/ Wolf steel rounds thru it. No FTE, no FTF. It has another 960 rounds (2 cases) Federal xm855. The federal has a little more snap to it, but the rifle eats the steel just fine and spits it out well. At $198 per 1,000 rounds, it is a great value when you are fighting off a horde of attack pumpkins, or threatening water jugs.

Just picked mine up Wednesday, took it to the range today. Lovin it. I too picked up the American Eagle 55gr FMJ. Worked fine except one one mis feed misfire out of 99 rnds primer dented but didnt fire. That was the junk ASCmag Ireceived with it. Don't particularly like the polymer rear MBUS sight, seems a bit weak when switching reticles.

I've fed mine a variety or factory ammunition ranging from inexpensive Russian steel case to premium hunting rounds. I've shot a few hundred of my own reloads. My preferred inexpensive ammunition is Wolf 223 brass case FMJ imported from Taiwan. Good ammo in reloadable brass cases.
