Im About to purchase an AR-15 and have it narrowed down to either the tried and true Colt LE6920 or the similar S&W MP-15 311000LE. I owned a similar model made by bushmaster several years ago and have regretted selling it every since however didn't really want another bushmaster brand. Thoughts and Info would be appreciated.

Colt will have decent resale value, the others less. I see nice, tricked out AR's for sale below $700, and they sit awhile. The direct impingement gas system leaves a lot to be desired, although the AR is easier to clean than my Ruger Ranch rifle. I hear good things about "piston" AR's but also their own unique set of problems. Get one (and lots of good, cheap mags) before the election, just in case. Joe

is the colt twist different some where setup for different ammo ranges.

Depends ....the 16 inch colt and the 20 have diff twist rates.... 1:7 ( 55 -80 GR) and 1:9 ( 55-70 GR) on the HBAR, I believe, if I remember right.

Look at the 6921 Also.

All AR's ARE NOT the same...here is something for your reference.
Check all the links within.
There is a reason that a few vendors don't have/want their info in there..

I have both.
As was stated, the Colt has greater resale value.
The Colt has 1-7" twist versus 1-9" for the S&W
The Colt has a 4 position stock versus 6 position for the S&W
The S&W has standard handguards and the Colt has M4s
The Colt has the front side sling swivel

Mechanically and finish wise, they are very close
I would be fine with either in a pinch

Assuming the small price difference doesn't bother you, go for the Colt. Better fit and finish and a better barrel. The LE6920 is being discontinued for civilian sales, so if you want a Colt AR with the cool LE roll marks, get it now!

Not to beat a really dead horse and please don't reply so we don't totally change the subject.... but taken from one of the posts above.... "The direct impingement gas system leaves a lot to be desired,...."

I simply don't get a comment like that. It does what it's designed to do just perfectly. Especially for us and our SEMI-autos. There are choices now (that's what makes America great) so just buy what you want.
