Default Adjustable gas block

I appreciate the great info on removing the Sport's gas block as I'm planning on doing it myself to also accomodate a fold down sight.

Looking at the different brands, I came across J-P Rifle's adjustable block. It's about $90 IIRC but is it ever needed? No point throwing away good ammo money.

I just shoot recreationally but I do re-load and am still working on different recipes. That's enjoyable in itself.

I have seen where people have simply cut off the sight portion of the gas block and filed down the rough edge then put a flip up sight on a rail. Now I don't know if this hass been done to a Sport specifically. I've never done it. But it seems doable.

The project in itself, or the block that the OP talked about?

If it is the project itself that you frown on, why is it a waste to have a DIY optics ready project? If the OP wants a folding front sight, I fail to see the waste there.

As for the adjustable block, if it adjusts the amount of gas that cycles the action, I could see where that would be a waste unless someone had a, say, 300 whisper upper and were going to use a silencer and subsonic rounds. Other than that maybe, the adjustable block is useless.

Thanks for the replies. I don't want to destroy my OEM front sight. I'll just use a standard rail block and save the extra money for something else.
