Default Question for those with the M&P 15 Sport with MAGPUL sites

Looking through my manual it states to "use the included MBUS Sight Adjustment Tool" to adjust the front sights but I never received one and according to the guy at Gander Mountain none of the 3 they have there has the tool. Did you get one, and if so where was it?

Double check you packing. The adjustment tool is small and looks like a small wind up key. It is possible they ship them without a key, so if you can't find one, call Magpul and they might send you one.
I put some on an AR and they are regulated for an AR 5.56MM and I found them to be pretty close. Hope this helps.

Usually S&W has the rifle pretty well sighted in. If the elevation is in need of adjusting, you can do it with a small pick, nail, etc.

Push down the set pin with the nail, and turn the post in 1/4 turn increments. Clockwise puts the sight lower, which raises the POI. Counter clockwise brings the POI lower. I tend to work with 1/2 turn increments, and then back 1/4 turn once I over-do it.

My Magpul rear didn't need one and the front sight is a standard A2 type which can be adjusted with a nail or other object.

I bought my 15-Sport just before S&W switched to the MagPul rear flip up sight.

I bought a UTG Model 4/15 4 Prong A2 Front Sight Tool off Amazon for $7.50. Didn't have to use it on my 15-Sport. The factory set that front sight just right.

Thanks Guys. Right now I don't need it but since I read through the manual and it stated I should have one I wanted to make sure I got it now when it was just days after purchase than wait and need it later. Since it seems they aren't shipping them with it I sent S&W an email and if I don't hear back in a couple days I'll call.

Well I called S&W today since they never replied to my email and their customer service rep basically told me too bad, call Midaway for the tool we don't have them. Great customer service jerk wad. It's a shame because I like the gun but any company that won't stand behind what they have printed in their manual won't get another purchase from me. makes me worried about the warranty if something happens since it's in the same manual.

Since I posted that last statement I wanted to follow up with what transpired. After I hung up I reread through this thread because I was sure someone said they called and received a tool. Sure enough that's what philevans posted. So with that nugget of knowledge I called back and requested a manager or someone above the reps answering the phone calls. A gentleman answered and I explained my previous phone call and what I read on this thread. He stated they most certainly did have the tools and the previous call taker should have offered to send one out. After taking down my info he asked if I happen to remember who I previously spoke to, I did, and he asked me to hold the line. After about a minute or so he came back and said he reeducated the gentleman I spoke with whos only answer was he didn't know they had them so told me they didn't and to call Midway. All in all I'm satisfied how it turned out. I am always wary when I have a problem with a gun manufacturers customer service since you usually will get excellent customer service, at least I always have in the past. just wanted to add this so no one thought my bad experience ended that way.

Glad you got the results you were looking for. It sometimes takes a step up the ladder to get it though.

In the field we use a round, bullet point down to depress the pin and turn.

With the Sport, you should not get the tool for the Magpul front sight. You do not have a Magpul Back Up Sight (MBUS) front sight. The Sport comes with a standard front sight base. If you look at the instruction sheet that refers to the MBUS adjustment tool, you will see that the front sight pictured is not what you have on your firearm.

Now, with that out of the way, did you get it and does it work on the standard front sight base? As SSgt M stated, we always used a round, or a nail, or some other object that could push the pin down.

I had the Mbus site and never got a tool for it either. If it was in a small baggy tho, it's likely that it could have slipped out of the box.

Despite what they may show in the manual, S&W has never shipped the front sight tool with their rifles.
An FMJ bullet point or other handy suitably point object can be used to turn the front sight post. If I recall correctly (forgive me if I'm off), each quarter turn of the sight post moves POI around 3/4" at 50 yards for a AR with a carbine sight radius.
Gen II MBUS front sights do come with an adjustment tool, but their post is easily adjustable without the tool.

OK I understand this is a forum and I appreciate different points of view, but why put anything in the manual that states an adjustment tool is included and then not send one. I do agree that the front sight is different than the MBUS front sight pictured in the manual but again, why put that in the manual.
The first thing I usually do when I get a new firearm is read through the manual completely but I seldom look through pictures unless I read something I don't understand or am unfamiliar with. I did do that in the actual manual but paid no attention to the pictures in the additional paperwork so until I read it in here and went and looked back at the pictures I didn't realize that there was a difference. Being new to the AR platform doesn't help either, it's worse than a Harley with add on pieces and different manufacturers.
Anyway I received the tool from S&W and guess what, it doesn't look like the Magpul tool in the manual either nor does it say Magpul anywhere on it. I'm sure you guys will be familiar with the design and be able to tell who it's from. It's just a polished silver tube with lugs on the edge to depress the pin. It does work fairly well, it just barely fits in the area in the front site and when you turn it the next lug hits the pin area keeping it from being able to completely spin and lock the pin into the next cutout. Easily remedied by pulling up on the tube after the pin is depressed. Again this may be normal as I have no prior experience.
I believe from the comments the second S&W person I talked too that they are receiving numerous calls from people who read the same spot in the manual card that I did. Seems like a quick fix would be to either cut out the part that informs you how to adjust the front sites, place a sticker over it to block it out or make it more obvious that it is two different front sites. Again those that are familiar with the AR platform and the different types of manufacturers and parts will probably pick this misinformation out quickly but new owners, which I believe is what this rifle targets, may do the same that I have. Just my .02 which in todays economy is probably less than .01. Regardless of any of this with the front sites or tool I just want to restate that I was impressed with the customer service I received from the second S&W person I spoke too which may be more important than the $2 tool.

Hey WIKD, sorry, wasn't really trying to bust your chops. Sounds like they sent you a standard site adjustment tool. I agree that the manual can be confusing to a person new to the rifle and the acronyms associated. The problem is mainly that the manual does not cover just one model, it covers the whole M&P 15 line, so some of the features may not apply. It is good to see that the customer service folks took care of you.

I too purchased a M&P 15 Sport with the Magpul front sight, searched through the box trying to find the tool referred to in the manual, and found nothing. Called S&W customer service, got a hold of a very nice gentleman who said he had one they would send me. While I appreciate the friendly, timely response the "key" got here today and it doesn't fit... It won't even fit in between the outside posts as diameter is too large.

I will call again and request another one that fits.

Regardless of whether you can use a bullet, a nail, or any other pointed object, the manual says to use the tool and they failed to provide one. And even when you call to request one and tell them specifically which model it is for they don't ship the one you need.

This is not rocket science, change the manual or provide the correct tool, easy. It's a little piece of plastic that probably costs less than a nickel to manufacture, how hard could it possibly be to put one in the box? Instead they waste the customer's time, the customer service agent's time, pay someone to package and ship it, and then pay the shipping to send you the wrong part, so you can waste your time, again, the customer service agent's time, again, pay someone to package and ship it, again, and pay the shipping on it, again...

For a nickel's worth of plastic that should have been in the box in the first place...

Twysted, unless S&W has made a recent change, the Sport does not come with a Magpul front sight. If your front sight is metal and fixed, it is not a Magpul sight, it is the standard A2 style front sight base.

The manual covers the M&P15. It covers the different models and it wouldn't make sense for them to make a different manual for one that has a different rail or a flip up front sight vs. the FSB. This is common for firearms, automobiles, motorcycles, etc.

For others that are going to call S&W for a tool, you need to know what you have and what you need. Or, like most of us, use the tip of a .223 round. The Sport does not come with a Magpul MBUS so the MBUS adjustment tool will not work. S&W sent WIKD the right tool for his configuration. Cyphertext point this out earlier in the thread.

I recently purchased a m&p 15t with magpul front and rear sights and after reading this thread decided to check and see if mine came w the adjustment key. I didnt find it at first but it ended up being in the bag with the safety lock and its associated keys. Seems like it was kinda tossed in there as it had no packaging of its own. If you havent already checked you might try there.
