Replace upper receiver assembly on Sport? Anyone done it?

I was looking around at Palmetto Armory and see they have a fully assembled upper receiver assembly kit for $99 which includes a forward assist and dust cover.

I'm wondering how involved or if it's even possible to swap in something like that with my M&P Sport? I really don't care much about the dust cover but did have a few feed issues on my first outing with my AR and it really got me thinking that a forward assist might be a wise thing to have after all.

At the price of $99, it's not all that bad but as I did not build this M&P I'm not sure if I can just swap this out or not.

Here's the upper receiver I'm talking about. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/a3-complete-upper-receiver.html

FWIW I did actually email them asking if they knew if this would work with the Sport but it's been a few days without an answer so far.

If anyone here had swapped out the upper receiver on their Sport, please chime in.

Thanks!

You can swap it out but it requires tools and a bit of labor.

Also, problems with clambering on a new weapon are not normal and your energies might be better spent finding the real problem which probably lies in either the magazine or feed ramps/chamber area IF the weapon is not really filthy or being run dry.

quoted for truth. If you are in the scenario where you would have used the F/A multiple times something needs remediation. :)

I don't disagree. Just made me think maybe it'd be nice to have and it's not overly expensive to buy the parts. But that doesn't account for cost of tools I would need.

More than anything, it got me thinking enough about it to wonder if others here have done it and if so if they could give some feedback on the process, problems encountered, etc.

Nothing magical about the S&W Sport except IF you plan on using existing upper internal parts there is no FA.

This may assist you if you decide to go ahead.

It's not the FA, it's the person that doesn't know what it does.

This video makes me laugh. He rips a mag out, rips on the charging handle, the inserts a mag, POUNDS on the FA with no round in the chamber...THEN he chambers a round... AND POUNDS THE FA MORE.

ROTFL

Always makes me shake my head. He's on a range. He's not taking fire. There's no good excuse to stop firing and inspect rifle.

/\+1 JaPes. I think instant videos make people more stupid than ever. He was more worried about his performance than paying attention to the situation at hand. The net is full of **** like that.

Stay thirsty my friend.:)

AGAIN, the FA is a good way to make sure a round is fully chambered if you gently "ease" the bolt home to avoid the clunk. Just a "feel good" check, maybe but clearing failures was never it's purpose.

Originally, it was to chamber rounds in a very dirty rifle before running them "wet" became SOP. Ironically, one of the original fallisies was the M16 didn't need frequent cleaning and the fouled chambers impeded going into battery.
