Default M&P sport, what ammo are you using

Just bought a M&P 15 sport and now trying to gather info. What ammo is everyone using with good success. Also if you can say if using for closer indoor or longer outdoor shooting. Thanks in advance.

I'm using PMC X-TAC XP193 and I shoot outdoors at 50 plus yards. So far I have been very happy with it at $5.60 a box. I have also used a little Tula and American Eagle.

WPA/ Wolf for plinking. $198 per 1,000 rounds. Makes it tolerable to do a carbine class every month.

XM855 for the reserves ammo.

several hundred m855 green tips, and some ubiquitous AE223, and HORNADY chicom crackhead zombie max sprinkled in for fun.

While not shooting a sport, I have had excellent results with TulAmmo, up until yesterday. I had a few 'light' loads in a box, evident right away while firing. I was consistently hitting a target at 330 yrds, but while the light loads they were dropping 50 to 100 yards short of the target and on one occasion it was just enough to eject the round without catching the next, and on two occasions it was enough to eject the round and catch the next just enough to cause it to not feed in the chamber, with the bolt ending up about halfway up the cartirdge.

Hoping it's just that particular box of twenty (had maybe 4 o 5 out of that box). It was enough to make me rethink ordering a 1000 rounds of it and possible stepping up to some federal brass.

I have been using Silver Bear 55 gr, brown bear 55gr, and wolf 55 gr. No problems and consistency has been good. Still learning the firearm plan on getting some match ammo for the next go around just to see how accurate the gun can be.

I use Federal xm193 55gr, PMC 223 55 & 62 gr, BVAC 55gr ammo. It all works great. They are all about equal in accuracy. The PMC is slightly more accurate then the other two.

Is Wolf a military surplus ammo ?
Do they have crimped primers ?

Steel cased, Russian made, teflon coated (No longer lacquer coated brass).
Is anyone using it in any military function?? Maybe in a 3rd world country. The Russian army runs a variety of stuff, and Wolf made tons and tons of ammo for AK's. It does not rust in the box unless you screw up and seal it in plastic, or soak it. Old cases on the ground show rust a while after firing (interior not coated, heat from firing beats up on the teflon coating.) it does fine in the factory packing for a LONG time. I have a bunch of 7.62x39 that is steel, and at least 10 years old. No issues.

It is not used in any US military program. I use it in a bid to keep the local pumpkin population in check.
Accuracy is fair; if you are real picky, you can weigh and match the stuff and get very good results out of it. For average carbine drills, it works great. I don't sweat a 6" ring at say 50 yards. If I put 5 into that ring at speed, I have done very well. I have found that in carbine drills, there is a long disconnect from being effective- speed and accuracy combined vs. pinpoint accuracy. If I need to hit the same hole 5 times...... I toss 30 rounds at the problem!!

The ammo is decent. It's not Black Hills Match; then again....it's $200 per 1,000 rounds.

I watched a "First 48" marathon on A&E. From recovered cases at a murder scene, Russian polymer coated steel case bi-metal jacketed ammunition seems to be the popular choice for use in gang related homicides.

Mostly I've used Federal XM855 (LC headstamp '11) The stuff everyone is selling on stripper clips in 30 cal ammo cans. I got it off the local economy, 840 rds for $230 + tax. It functions OK and produces 3-4"groups at 100yds, if I don't have to think about the wind. In the hands of someone that can actually shoot, it might do better.

The load that produces the best groups is the Black hills 68gr Heavy Match. This is remanufactured ammunition, which I usually avoid. But Blackhill ammo has a good reputation and as near as I can tell this stuff gets the same QC as their new ammo. Last I bought was from Midway, about $30/50 plus shipping.

LOL. Werd!

I did shoot this using a 14.5" 1:9 CMV barrel FrankenAR, off a wobbly range bench & chintzy plastic rest.

100ft. Slow fire. Iron Sight. TulAmmo .223, 55gr JHP.

Good shots are possible with cheap TulAmmo.
