Default 2 Weeks and 600 rnds, M&P sport

New here, shooter on another forum sent me here.
this weapon out of the box is all business .
Shot 200 rnds first day with zero malfunction.
Took it to an Army armor I no, after disassembly, he couldn't believe the quality and craftsmanship.
I ran 400 rnds since then with no issues, using only pmags,
I paid 630 shipped to my FFL. Best rifle for the money, and just as good, just as accurate as rifles costing twice what were paying in this platform.
Every one seems this is an entry level weapon due to price and its not a true milspec weapon, however the differences overall are not huge from who are considered top AR manufacturers. Not sure who needs a forward assist at the range nor a dust cover, maybe its just me, considering were not taking these across the pond down range. The barrel profile is better imo, the Melonite coating is proven, and the machined trigger guard is a nice touch. Seems the haters on other forums don't care to hear about the sport, why, we'll they spent 1200 to 1800 on there M-4 that shoots no different than mine .
All in all,, can't go wrong with this weapon for personal use.

Completely agree! and if a dust cover is that important for 99$ you can replace the upper receiver and still use the same bolt carrier/barrel set up.

So for 730$ you have an amazing rifle with a dust cover compared to paying $900+ for a bushy or colt

God Bless You and thanks for serving....Yeah I have noticed the same reaction in some of the other forums that I "used" to spend the bulk of my time on. I served in the desert and traded in my m16a1 for a M60 and didn't baby it or have any malfunctions and it didnt need a forward assist or a dust cover. My Dad served in Nam when they were first issued the M16's and his first one didnt have a forward assist but it did have a dust cover. Being a Jarhead he always kept his rifle as clean as possible under the conditions and has told me many times that he didnt need one and after he was reissued an A1 he said he didnt use the FA very often and it was just a soft thumb push when he did. Congrats on your sport I hope you like it as much as I do...keep your head down!!!

p.s. He also said he preferred his M1 grease gun!!! LOL

Well stated Sergeant, I agree totally! My Sport model shoots just as well as my $2000 Colt. As far as Mil-Spec...That has become a moot point. Mil-spec has just become marketing hype to sell rifles. Manufacturers have gone above and beyond with "new" standards that put Mil-spec to shame.

Proud to serve, thanks.
Funny you bring up the 60, I believe thats an open bolt fired design, Most problems with that particular weapon is a hot azz barrel according to my Nam Vet buddy. He said he carried a can of wd40 in the jungle to keep it clean
Anyway, I believe I've hit the jack pot with this weapon, and I'm sure most if you feel the same.

Many of the key board combatants on other forums say it's a great paper puncher, it just a range gun, even if there LE, there not shooting people daily, there punching paper too. I'm pretty sure my barrels stamped 5.56 NATO, and has the same accuracy and killing power as my gov. issued M-4, I'm just saying !!

I'm even goin to get my son one.

Yeah...the barrel did get hot as all get out, and you could never find the glove when you needed it most, or at least my Agunner couldnt. If you research a little further you will find that the sport has a gain (progressive) twist in the barrel which should make the throat of the barrel last longer, seeing as in my experience that is the first place the barrel wears out. Also I have been using milsurp M16 mags (they were a gift with the rifle) with no problems although it has been recommended to use the Magpul follower. I will do that as soon as the Chief Financial Officer will allow me to. And I probably will replace the springs in them also. Since I started joining the gun forums I have really started to dislike gun snobs and they are out there, sometimes I learn something from them, mostly not. This forum is the best I have ever seen with the most helpful people out there. I have a habit of asking questions and sometimes I dont like the answers but after I think about it, they make a lot of sense. I have an Ultradot Pan-A-V holo absolute cowitnessed with my sights and I love it. Don't let anyone tell you it is a rebadged NCStar (LOL) but enjoy and I know your son will too.

yeah I'm pretty sure it will punch some holes in a crackhead/several crackheads kicking down my door too. According to alot of AR15 afficianados I guess I'll regret buying the sport when engaged in sustained desert combat in southeastern pennsylvania during an acronym scenario. go figure......

Best forum base I've been to yet, else where I'm getting yelled at over a keyboard about my ARs not mil spec. My 1911 probably isnt, most any weapon isn't, these people must not think highly of Smith, and that they didn't shoot thousands of rounds during proof testing to make the materials they chose work we'll together prior to release. Hell, melonite could prove to be better than a chrome lined mil spec barrel.
So far, the only useful info I've found elsewhere is on the proper staking of the bcg. Which, is correct and better looking than some top companies bolts I've looked atm

THANK YOU Smith & Wesson for for a no nonsense all business rifle thats affordable.

Agreed. I think that the S&W M&P 15-Sport is at the right price point to attract more people to the E.B.R. (evil black rifle) addiction. That alone is a good thing.

The S&W M&P 15-Sport's affordable price is the "taste" that got me addicted.

I've noticed that the folks who poo-poo the 15-Sport the most, are folks who've never owned/shot one.

I'm also of the opinion that mil-spec isn't the end-all-be-all of civilian rifle construction. There are advancements that civilians can take advantage of because we're not bound by mil-spec constraints.

An example...

It is accepted that non chrome lined barrels are inherently more accurate than chrome lined barrels, because chrome adds a layer within the barrel & rifling. The trade off is less corrosion resistance & a little more effort in cleaning.

Chrome lining adds hardness, longevity, corrosion resistance & ease of cleaning. The generally accepted trade-off is accuracy. <---Mil-Spec.

The Melonite process case hardens the barrel, adds corrosion resistance, and makes cleaning easier. It offers properties similar to chrome lining without degrading the accuracy of the rifle. <---Civilian

I'm still learning new AR construction & function details.

In the end, I think that a firearms enthusiast should spend their hard earned money whatever AR & trim level that will make them happy. If that's a 15-sport, cool. If that's a tricked-out Noveseke, cool.

That acronym gets thrown around so much that it's getting tiring hearing it.
