Default 5.56 ammo - remove from strip?

Got some ammo that came in metal holder. Is there a tool required to remove the cartridges?

There is a tool to help load the strips into the mag but I still do what I did in the Corps just bend the brass tab down at the end and slide the rounds out to hand load em.

The tool, your thumb, is used to slide the nice and neatly lined up ammo, in to a magazine. Keep in mind, someone will tell you its ok to shoot 5.56 in a 223 (when actually it is ok to shoot 223 in a 5.56, but not other way around), and if you have a bolt action rifle with removable magazine, those magazines most likely won't load this way, but rather require the bullet to be slide back in the magazine, one at a time.

Mags for the AR, you should be able to line up that clip, and slide the ammo in the magazine. May take some practice.

Default No big deal

Guess I should've searched for a youtube video before posting here. Was a simple screwdriver loosening a tab, then sliding the bullets out exercise.

Does make we wonder about buying this type in bulk if cheaper than loose cartridges in boxes. Note to self to see if there's a sticky for the "deal of the day on ammo". Once you get one of the widgets that hooks on your mags, it's a cinch to drop in 10 at a time.

I know our ammo used to come in the green cloth bandoliers with the mag well whatever for the stripper clips. It makes your thumb sore after a while, but it's pretty fast to refill a thirty count mag. That part just slips on the top, clip strip x3 and poof in seconds you are full again.

FWIW, I buy the stripper clips in bulk, and get a few spoons with the strippers. I load ALL my 223 on it, and then fill ammo cans with it. The medium size plastic black ammo can will hold 550 rounds on strippers. The standard xm855 can holds 420 in paper bundles of 3 strippers/ 30 rounds total. But when reloading the can without cardboard sleeves, the can holds about 500 rounds.
Once you run a carbine class and burn 1,000 rounds in a single day, you will understand why I do this. Reloading under the sun is not that great a way to pass the day. I can usually load a series of mags in about 1 minute flat. (10 30 rnd mags.) The rest of the guys busting boxes and loading take a lot longer.
Loading the stripper clips is easy in front of the tv when relaxing after dinner.

The disadvantage in having loose ammo ( bulk) is they can get damaged easier so the stripper clips and other methods to store ammo from manufactures is to keep them from getting dented.

A dented round can be unsafe (the case fails) which is why i check my rounds as I load them it only takes a second but my philosophy is better safe then sorry.

+1 on the Stripula. It's much easier to load with one of those than with the standard loading shoe. Works on GI mags and pmags.
