Beautiful Day in SW Kansas
It is a gorgeous day here in the flatlands with no wind. I received 1000 rounds of Fed XM193f this morning. Changed my scope out and boresighted last night. The 4-16x40 was just too big and heavy, but on a 3-9x32wa. Have my new handguard on. Getting ready to head to the farm...sight in with some of the federal, do a gratuitous mag dump or 2 with some Russian Steel ammo, and then head up the hill for some relaxing Pdog hunting, either that or take a nap. Nah going shooting. Here is the latest rendition of my Sport, wish some of you were closer and wanted to go along. But it just means more minutes for me to tear stuff up.

I think that new hand guard was a good find for $35......got enough rail on the bottom to accommodate a bipod without alterations if so desired.

Ok I went out shooting ran through all of my steel brown bear and silver bear and tulammo. Did my first mag dumps, 80 rounds pretty quickly (wow money can go fast). As i said earlier I had changed scopes and had to sight it in. I had read in a couple of threads that certain people wouldnt use tulammo or russian steel for sighting in, I had in the past and you all have seen my targets, not bad but I can do better. Today I had a right hand wind about 5 mph right to left. So I sighted in with some American Eagle brass and some Fed XM193f: 50yrdssitngxm193f.jpg I then moved back to 100 yards and shot 2 targets one using Tulammo and the other Federal Xm193f. While loading the magazine to finish off the Tulammo and see how well it shot I noticed this primer: 031202_1834[00].jpg 031202_1834[01].jpg
I dont know whether it would shoot or not but I didnt try and didnt want to blow my sport up or hurt myself so I culled it and kept it. Anyway I shot a full magazine at this target just using Russian Steel cased ammo: 100yrdsTulammo.jpg
I had 19 rounds of the federal I hadnt shot yet so I shot them into this target at 100 yrds: 100yrdsFedXM193f.jpg
Now I didnt have any stuck cases but the inside of my Sport was wet with the Tri_Flow lubricant. But I could sure tell the difference in Accuracy between the two. The mag dumps are fun but in the back of my mind I just kept the feeling that I was wasting ammo. That new handguard stayed cool through the whole session and it fits so well in my NXT shooting stand I was happy. It was way easier to see the holes in the paper with my 4-16x40 over the 3-9x32 but I dont think hunting Pdogs I will really notice the difference only that the 193 ammo is way way more accurate. Also shooting offhand with the new handguard is really alot more stable just due to the way it fits in your hand. Thats my range report for the day!!! I had a great day and I hope you all did also!!!!

Id go back to the 16x40, weight shouldn't be a consideration on a pdog bench gun imo. Plus watchin them fill the scope as they blow in half is always fun.

Ok I have thought about it and looked at my scoring and I am either going to put the big scope back on it or purchase a new one for it!!

Hey what is the length of the scope you have here in the 3 pics? Just wondering I have a Leupold 3x9x40 was wondering how it might look on my AR when I get it.

12 3/4" the one I am putting back on is 14 7/8". Sarge is right the extra magnification is good especially since I have stepped up in the quality of ammo I am using. I shot way tighter groups with the 4-16x44 plus having the windage knobs was handier.

Ok Cool! Looks good on there. I'm thinking of a regular cross hair scope now instead of a red dot.

If you want any sort of distance shooting, you will want that scope instead of a red dot.
I put a red dot on my 300 whisper, and at 120 yards the red dot covered about 5" of the 6" black center on my target. No way to see the red bullseye.

Yeah I have the big scope back on it...I have 500 rounds through it now so I cleaned it...the russian stuff does leave it dirtier than I remember. It took awhile to clean all the crud out. I lubed it with a tiny bit of high temperature grease and Tri-Flow.
