I bought my MP15 sport a few months ago and was looking into getting a complete upper conversion for it. I found one off MIDWAY USA and was wondering if anyone had feedback on it. I am not an A.R. genius therefore I was hoping you guys can help out. Reviews are positive, the only big difference I can see is the polymer charging handle and missing sights. Thanks for the feedback!

I think the CMMG is the most common 22LR upper. Seems to be the most accepted as far as being about the most reliable.

Spikes used to make them, but I have heard of several issues with their's. Also heard they aren't going to make them any more.

Looks like a really good deal to me, I may have list and book mark that...
I'm even looking at .50 Cal bolt action uppers.
lil spendy though ....

I appreciate the feedback. I have gotten a lot of different opinions from everyone and they all help. It's difficult for me as I am still trying to learn all there is to know about A.R.'s and it's over whelming. I thought about the 15-22 but you compromise the feel of an A.R. For the price if that makes any sense.

Other than being made of polymer, I don't think it sacrifices any AR feel. Even that's easy to forget when you're firing away. The 15-22 was my intro into the AR platform and I like having a dedicated .22 so I can shoot my AR with my kid. Both are great options and I don't think you can go wrong with either. The 15-22 from experince and the CMMG from everything I've read.

I don't believe that one is made from polymer. I have the CMMG Quebec-A (complete rifle with dedicated .22lr upper) and it is not polymer.

We also have a M&P 15-22. Between the two of them, the S&W functions more like a 5.56 AR. The bolt does not lock back on the CMMG after the magazine has been removed. They now sell a kit that would give the rifle that function, but I have to change the followers in my magazines and tweak this and that for function. I just pull the charging handle with each magazine change.

Agreed. I was talking about the 15-22. Thanks for adding clarity for the OP.

My bad BillyJack....I missed the reply above yours and didn't read what you quote...reading comprehension sucks when watching tv, eating lunch, and surfing all at the same time. :)

One of my concerns with the 15-22 is that I read you are limited to customizing parts on it because smith and Wesson built the lower special so that it's cheaper and more affordable. Does anyone know if this is true or not? I heard its not interchangeable. I appreciate those who have replied already. Joe

The lower on the 15-22 is just different enough that it will not accept an upper other than a 15-22 upper. However, trigger groups and furniture are interchangeable.

^ My 15-22.

The 15-22 is a dedicated .22lr AR type rifle that tries to keep as true to the overall AR design as possible. The lower & upper can not be interchanged with major caliber AR's.

The 15-22 is compatible with standard AR furniture.

  • Pistol Grip
  • Milspec Stock
  • Standard rails
  • Standard AR trigger group

^ All of that allowed me to accessorize to my heart's content. The Magpul B.A.D. lever requires a little modification to fit.

With a little know-how & parts, the front rails can be removed and handguards put on. There are a couple members here that did this. Search the 15-22 forum.

The guts of the upper (bolt carrier group, barrel, charging handle) are proprietary to the 15-22.

Well after reading everyone's remarks and comparing prices for forty dollars more I am better off buying the second dedicated 22 A.R. I appreciate everyone's help. I wasn't sure what to do
For the past month but you all helped. Great talking to you all and be safe.
Joe
