Yup, it's not like shooting a big bore where more often than not a box of 20 will suffice !
It should be industry standard that a box of 5.56/223 is 100 rounds !
Buying by the 20 is senseless imo ; )

Don't forget to set aside $10 for a handguard tool. Makes the job easier.

Cleaning supplies are subjective to the way you like to clean. Solvent, lube, brush, patches, & you're good to go. Take it to the next level and you have boresnakes, flexible rod cleaning kits, chamber brushes, BCG & bolt cleaning tools, etc...

Start simple, work your way up as you need it.

Well, you know what they say: The only difference between men and boys is the price of the toys...

Got my handguard tool in the mail yesterday, best $10 spent on my "Barbie doll" so far. Used it to install my new Magpul MOE handguard that came on Friday. Seems like everyday a new accessory is, um, needed.

Nothing wrong with that. Ammo being the most important and you can never have enough.

x2 on the ammo. Of everything I've picked up, ammo gets used the most. Everything else is in the "I'm so excited that I can bolt this to my AR newbie drawer"

Yep I got mine the 1st week in February and have already spent over $300 in absolutely needed parts (thats what I tell the wife). She is starting to wonder why a new gun needs so many parts.

Yeah, start buying Ammo for sure...it's nothing to go through 100 rounds and it seems like you hardly shot. Plus, ammo prices just keep going up and up and up!
