Where to find 55 gr range bullets
Just wondering where you guys are gettin you bullets for reloading. I was lookin around and it seems they are running between 15 and 20 cents a bullet. Is there a source for decent bullets at a cheaper price?? As of now I am only shooting 100 yards.
thanks

I am sorry Thumbs, it looks like the rush is on, at this time the prices are starting to go up. If there are any local gunshows I would suggest looking there or doing a search, but it is starting to look like I am going to pay between 15 and 20 cents a bullet. But when reloading components get like this loaded bullets follow suite and prices go up. A lot of long time shooters have seen this more than once but it seems to be happening a lot more often now than it used to. A lot of it just boils down to a fear of what our govenment is getting ready to do next, if Obama gets re-elected then he is not afraid for his job and he wont care if he makes the populace unhappy and could enact all sorts of rules and regulations especially concerning firearms and ammunition. It is getting to where you buy what you can get, at least I still see a selection at Midway, you can also look at Cabela's or Gander Mountain or even Dicks Sporting Goods. Your lgs is another good place to look, hobby shops that are in out of the way places that carry reloading supplies are another.
Good Luck to Us All!!!

Well I can't remember him doing anything popular to me, but I digress.
I took a ride up to Cabelas this afternoon and got what I needed to setup my press for the .223. Anyway I was talkin to a guy that does a lot of yote huntin in Az. Long story short he suggested a couple of bullets that were on the shelf. When we went over to check them out they were the same price as the VMax. So I "bit the bullet"(sorry) and picked up a box of 250. I am kinda hoping to find some "plinking" bullets. I would like a reasonable amount of accuracy. Like I said I am only shooting at 100yard for now.

Powder Valley, Inc. has bulk 2000 count Hornady .224 55 GR SP W/C (HOR2266B2000) for $175. That's 9¢ a bullet.
They also list 55gr FRM BT for the same price but are out of stock.

Yeah I've been searchin and the more I look the better the Vmax look. I know Cabelas ain't cheap but the Vmax worked out to just under 16 cents a round. Don't know what Midway would charge for shipping but I would guess the cost would be pretty close.

Go to Midway, Click on the Hornady 55 grain FMJ bullets in the quantity that you want, then select to notify you when they are in stock. I've done this, works good.
I guess I bought my lot of bullets just in time, I got them from Midway about a week ago.

Another place to check from time to time is MidSouth Reloading. Last year they were selling blemished bullets from a major maker (looked like Hornady). Prices were great for then and amazing for now. Bought all I could afford at the time, wish I had taken out a loan. I'm not sure but I got the impression this is something they do on a yearly/regular basis. Otherwise I order from Cabelas or Natchez Shooters, Graf is good to deal with too.

Midway get's the Hornady blem's too. The thing is when they advertise you have to jump on them fast before they are gone. You can also check out shootersproshop.com, it's Nosler's web store they have the factory seconds for great prices. Just have to be lucky enough to catch them when running the caliber bullets you want.

Don't forget the Honrady ZMax, supposedly same as VMax. They can be had for 13 cent a piece just about anywhere in quantities of 500.
For cheap bullet, I kinda like the Hornady SP bullets, at least you get a little expansion with them and just about the same price as FMJ

Thumbs I just ordered 500 Rem 55 fmj from Cabelas for $50, makes them 10 cents each. Used them before and had good luck with them. They are on backorder but says ships in 1 to 2weeks. You can save shipping cost by sending them to a store and picking up there.

I order quite a bit from Midway, but for reloading supplies it's hard to beat Grafs; especially when you add differences in shipping costs.
