Default What's the difference?

I bought me a Sport last month and have started ordering accessories to fix it up the way I want it. My question is, there are alot of manufacturers out there that make aluminum quadrails, what is the difference between one's under $40 off of eBay or Amazon and the name brand one's that run $100 plus?

...weight, quality, fit... Depends on what you are used to and what you expect. There are lots of people that start with a lower cost quad rail and are fine with it. Others will use it for a while and realize they should have spent a bit more. Others spend a lot but still want a different feel / function.

The quad rails used on most M&P's from the factory are Troy Industries. They are on the pricey side. From what I have observed browsing gun shows, it's the finish that stands out the most to me. Some having a more grayish hue to them as opposed to a true black.

Fit would be another are where they differ. Some of the cheaper models use some pretty big allen head screws to assemble.

UTG makes one for 50-60 dollars and from what I understand it's pretty good. I don't use a quad rail due to the weight but I do like the looks of them.

I bought mine off of ebay about $30 dollars delivered it is from a company that makes them for some one else. 7075 T6 aluminum. Very happy with it, not free floating but fully marked (laser etched) and plenty of ventalation and lined up perfectly with my top rail. Can post the link of you want to look at it.

weight, how wide they are, finish, and built in features like qd sling points, and also the way they attach to the barrel nut.

I have the Midwest Industries Gen 2 on mine....great value for the money, lightweight, and not too awful round. $140, locks up rock solid.....

These are awesome, the Troy Industries M&P rail on my 300 upper has these, I think 3 locations on each side.

Agree, i havent been able to shoot my Bushmaster yet since the install but the MI gen 2 seems to be very nice. Had a YHM installed before, but the extra 5oz or so was actually pretty noticable.

That is the exact one I put on my rifle...oval holes and everything. I am going to go weigh my rifle to see what it weighs set up the way it is. 10.6lbs glad I am not into the tactical but setting back and reaching out to say hello!!LOL

UTG and companies like them make glorified airsoft stuff. Cheaper metal, less precise machining, sometimes not properly centered. You get what you pay for. Buy once. Buy quality. Companies like Larue are known for making durable long lasting products with 100% lifetime warranty.

Here is the Midwest Industries Gen 2 on the sport without any covers or foregrip. Definetely worth every penny my man I highly highly recommend this system over the much heavier albeit cheaper UTG pro if you want to keep the front light. My gun ( with polytac ) weighs in @ 8.8 lbs loaded. The MI gen 2 represents probably the best bang for your buck for a drop in system, not quite as light or thin as Daniel Defense but darn close with some savings......

Integrated limited rotation QD sling swivel sockets are not a necessity with picatinny adaptors available but as stated above they are a really nice feature in terms of getting the sling out of the way.

I took some better pictures, I think you will notice the reason why mine weighs way more the SpittieBus's, My quadrail is made of 7075 T6 aluminum and is really light weight, I did change to ladders and so far I like them a lot, I have the BUIS installed but there is no way to use them with the Scope plus the heavy duty Bipod. But I like this handguard. Am impressed with how well it fit and lined up.

Grover, I think I am going to have go with the "glorified airsoft" hand guard, I have a disabled child that needs the money alot more than a high priced piece of aluminum.

Mike, my wife and I live off of my VA disability check, so I look for inexpensive parts that state they are for rifles, I know my Mako Magwell grip is airsoft, didnt know it when I ordered it, but it fits nicely and works the same. I have seen airsoft parts as high as some bigger brand name parts. If a person has the money to buy the more expensive stuff thats great, some of us dont, heck if it hadnt been for the Sport being as inexpensive as it is, I still wouldnt have an AR of any kind, as it is I feel fortunate to be able to have one thats as nice as it is. The Matech sights have enabled me to spend some money on it recently but I am going to have to redirect those funds into the family budget now, according to the mrs.

AFAIK, the German edition is the only one that hit the charts!

I was talking about a full auto AR, to compliment your Singapore made Sport AR...

Well that's the only endorsement I need. I just bought two. One to give as a gift to a buddy building an AR on a bare-bones budget. The other one to put in the parts box for a future build.

Allright, you guys have me thinking again... And here I was, SOOOOOOO happy with the feel of my stock hand guard. I do like a narrow rail though. Can someone measure the width with and without rail covers? Thanks all!

Carbine Length Quad Rail New Design ! Heavy Duty!! | eBay

I received two railed drop in handguards from this seller. Both are out of spec and defective. Both will not just drop in and seat at all.

Instead of it being round, it looks like an oval. No matter what I did, the handguard will not align to the teeth on the AR barrel nut.

I tried it out on both my AR's and no-go. Both handguards have the same defect.

Time to see if OmegaTactical will refund me my money.

I-Ayae ayae..... Those are not meant to drop in. Take the old one out, unscrew the upper and lower part. When seated on the rear, that ring is to go over the front ring that the original fits inside of. Not to the inside like a stock unit does. Then, tighten the screws.
This confounded me with a simiar unit for a minute a while back. It will work properly, it will pinch down on that front foregrip ring and not move.

I hear ya rojodiablo. Trust me. I put them in the correct way. I know which end goes seats toward the delta ring. I know the front goes over the existing hand guard cap.

The issue I have is that since the hand guard is out-of-round and the barrel nut is round, the little alignment nubs on the handguard will not seat properly into the valley on the barrel nut.

Imagine the same nubs on the other side that seats into the delta ring.

The nub & valley don't align properly. I've tried to finesse it in, it comes close but just enough out of round to not mate.

I didnt have that problem, they fell right into the the slots in the barrel nut area,,,I am so sorry, I hope they take care of you
I know it is crazy but can you tighten up the nut a little, plus I tightened the front before I pulled in the back but I tightened them evenly.

I thought of that too Grover. Even if I adjusted the barrel nut, I still have the issue that an oval part won't match up to a circle.

I tried to install both of the hand guards onto my 15-Sport and my R-Guns upper. Same issue.

I think I must have gotten a pair that came off the bottom of a double stacked pallet load of these things. No problems. It happens.

UPDATE!

I requested a refund from the seller, omegatactical2010. The seller voiced the same concerns as rojodiablo, and gave the similar advice. To facilitate communication, I video recorded an attempt to install the hand guard with a close-up of the clearance issue with the hand guard, and posted a private video on YouTube.

Once the omegatactical2010 viewed the video, he immediately replied. He stated he was going to issue a refund, send out replacement hand guards on the house, along with rail covers and fore grips for free, and a shipping label. He had never run into this issue before, and is going to double check his inventory.

Woah. I was a bit shocked by the customer service. All I ever want are fair and equitable transactions between myself and a vendor.

If he's going to send me replacement hand guards, there is no need for a refund. There is no need for free stuff. All I need is a pre-paid shipping label. I consider that to be fair and equitable for the both of us. I sent him a message stating this.

Omegatactical2010 is now on my "favorite vendor" list on E-bay.

I communicated with them when I bought mine and they seemed to be that way...I feel very good in seeing their response. I was really unhappy with having recommended when you got handguards that were like that. Especially to you. Thanks for posting.

It sets real solid on a bench....LOL
Nice setup. Right now my two AR's are devoted to CQ type shooting. When I start my build in the fall I want a setup like yours to reach out and touch those long distance targets.

Wasn't your fault Grover.

Omegatactical2010 insists on going the extra customer service mile, even though I told him it wasn't necessary. I'm absolutely floored.
  • Pre-paid shipping label to return handguard.
  • Refund of entire purchase price.
  • Sending out two handguards, that he will check for fit, for free.
  • Sending out rail covers for both handguards for free.
  • Sending out fore grips for free.

He thanked me for bringing it to his attention. He took a still from the video and is having his staff check his inventory for proper fit.

"If I catch even two more out of spec handguards in my stock, it will save me more time and money than sending you out replacement items for free."

Omegatactical2010 is a stand-up guy (pardon the mafia parlance). After all this, I'm buying more stuff from him.

Yeah I am planning a build in the fall with a longer free floated barrel. AR Performance out of Pueblo, Co makes what they call a hybrid1-8 5R Melonite 20" barrel for under $200 with the rifle length gas system. It will be the basis for my build. In fact as soon as I can I will own one. I still lack some pieces but the more I change on my Sport the more I have for the new build.

Grover,

When you get the barrel, let me know how it works out. I want to assemble a varmint rifle this summer/fall, and this barrel sounds perfect.

I will, this will become my Varmint rifle and then the Sport will become my cqb rifle, I know that I feel the sport excels as a varmint rifle but I think the longer barrel will give me longer accurate reach. I have just been fortunate that the sport is as accurate as it is.

I received the replacement hand guards from omegatactical2010. I test fit both hand guards on both my rifles. The replacements drop right into place, perfectly aligned. I'm impressed with these drop in hand guards. They're darn good for the asking price.

One is set aside for a future build, the other is going to be a b-day gift for a friend.

I sent omegatactical2010 a message telling him of the successful test fit, and that I am more than willing to pay for these replacement hand guards.
