Which Rear Flip up sight?
Hi folks, I tried a search and it didn't give me the specific info. I was looking for. So I decided to ask you forum experts. I just bought a S&W M&P 15 model 311000 LE rifle. What would be the best flip up rear sight I can add after taking the carrying handle off. This rifle has the standard fixed AR front sight. I have enclosed a picture of the 811000 model which is just like my model. Thanks for any help!!!!!
Wow, after submitting this thread I just noticed the rifle used at the top of this forum section is what I am looking for. I would like to get a rear sight just like that, or whatever everyone recommends.

The one in the forum picture is the MBUS from Magpul. Very popular polymer backup sight. I have one on my 15-22. I also have the front but I'm not sold on it.
On mt AR, I have the Matech that ingot from forum member oneyeopn. It's my favorite and I don't have any hesitation recommending it. Good thread below on it.

I'll second the Matech sight, if you want a folding BUIS that has both elevation and windage. My other preference is either to chop the carry handle where you can mount just the sight part only, or get the LMT factory version.
LMT Tactical Rear Sight
I like having both windage and elevation adjustments on the rear sight.

I recently HAD to purchse the M&P 15 Sport...
It has the MBUS from Magpul site on it and LOVE it.. It co-witneses with my Sightmark Reflex PERFECT and flip it up just for fun alot.....
Those other two look NICE as well..
I also got the Carier handle Site for 15 Sport but ended up puting it on my 15-22 cuz i liked the Reflex and MBUS Combo better
..

Since you said "best", IMHO Troy BUIS are the benchmark.
There are plenty of "competent" offerings for less money though.

I believe the Matech is the "benchmark" or Troy would have the govenment contract when it seems the the "real" M4 or M16 is the supposed "benchmark"
And our boys arent putting their lives on the line carrying a Magpul or a Troy!

Easy Grover, MILSPEC is just a Gvt. specification for MINIMUM standard. Plenty of non Milspec items are superior. My memory of issued equipment in the Corps was that it was
"less than the best available". One of the pridemarks of the Corps was excelling at accomplishing goals with the "leftovers" from the other Services.
The sight you love is a good one and I have even considered ordering one BUT Troy is generally reputed to be the "best".
As this thread illustrates, "best" is highly subjective but Government issue is certainly not an absolute proof of superiority or even parity with "the best". The M16 itself is even arguably NOT the best rifle that COULD BE issued. Only the one that IS issued. Gvt. contracts have many influences and being the "best" isn't always a guarantee of winning a bid.

Sorry you are right, I dont know I just seemed to wake up on the jumpy side this morning. And yeah I had learned to deal with "leftovers" so well that sometimes I forget that there are a lot better things. So my apologies, but I do like the Matech but if someone were to give me a set of Troys hell yes I would use the fool out of them. LOL
