Changing forend on my AR 15 Sport
Hey Gang,
Need to know if anybody knows what the lenght of the stock forend is on the Sport? If I wanted to change to a "quad rail" it states it is carbine lenght. Will the quad rail be just as long as the stock one or will it be shorter?
Thanks for the help,
Gunpacker

a carbine length quadrail will drop right in. You will find many people here have discovered Omega Tactical for a carbine length quad for quality and price. It will be just a frog hair longer because it covers up most of the front cap. but will fit just fine.

If you don't have tons of stuff to hook on your rails, you might look at the Magpul forend (carbine length). You can attach any length rail you want to it(sold separately) with the supplied hardware in just the right spot (say for a bipod) and not be holding on to a bunch of rough rail with your hand the rest of the time. This is the way I plan to do it to get a place for my bipod. I don't intend to add any other lights, etc. I am sure you will here many other options here and that is what is so great about this forum. Ideas and products you might never have heard of anywhere else.

SW Gun Guy is so right, options are almost limitless, depending mostly on your wallet and what you want your rifle to do. I myself have never had the Magpul handguard but a lot of people have and a lot of people love it, along the same lines as the Magpul, I like the AB Arms it has a built in handstop, but I eventually went to the Omega Tactical and still have it for the one I am building, I have the upper almost completed getting ready for the lower. My Sport I set up to be a long distance shooter and finally free floated the barrel but I shot a lot of rounds through both the AB Arms and Omega Tactical, I gave the AB Arms to a friend of mine but kept the Omega because especially with ladder covers it is a nice handguard.

Yeah.. agree with the above. Don't over-complicate. On my Sport, I wanted the ability to add a light ONLY IF NEEDED. I bought the shortest single rail I could find and put it on top of the handguard, to use if necessary. It adds basically no weight, and I hardly know it's there the rest of the time. I'm a simple guy though.

I can tell you that the Omega tactical carbine length quadrail with ladder rails is the cat's meow, it's tight and no slop. Best bang for your buck. I have to thank you again for turning me onto it Grover.

2-Piece Handguard Quad Rail AR-15 Carbine Matte
I put this on my Sport and it was a drop in installation. No movement and a tight precise fit for a reasonable price.

Here's mine with the Magpul MOE handguard with a light and mount and a micro QD adapter. The mount and QD adapter is made by Impact Weapons Components.

Rick you are sure welcome, after JaPes bought 2 and they were out of tolerance, and they sent him 2 free of charge and refunded his money, I was amazed. when I first dealt with Omega they answered my questions and were very upfront so I purchased one and really liked it and so a few others purchased one and everyone liked them and then cam Japes. He showed us all where his were out of tolerance and they fixed the problem immediately since then I have had no problems recommending them and their products.

I changed mine to a magpul (black). Then I wanted to change over to OD green. Since Magpul production can't keep up with demand , I decided to buy a UTG quad rail instead. Waiting for delivery.
