Which riser for m&p sport?
Howdy!
New member here with a new M&P sport. I was just wondering what riser height would be right for the average red dot scope?
I'm looking at something lower end like the TruGlo red dot scope to turn my sport into a coyote hunting rig.
Thanks!

Welcome to the club. I went with a 1/2" riser, but am using a scope, not a red dot. If you surf some of the posts relative to red dot sights, you may find your answer already posted.
Best of luck.

UTG makes an inexpensive riser which I used on my Sport to mount a Bushnell TRS-25. The part # is RSO8S3. Hope this helps you out.

The riser height will depend on how you want your sights and red dot to co-witness, absolute co-witness or lower 1/3 and how big the tube is on your red dot. My red dot and sights are set up for absolute co-witness and my mount raises the red dot 3/4 inch, I believe. I would need a taller riser if I wanted lower 1/3 co-witness.
ETA...My red dot tube is 30mm

Welcome to the club.
I would go with the 1/2" riser as well. This will enable you to co-witness the red dot with the BUIS.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm not sure I want it to co witness. I believe (at this point) I'd like to leave the rear sight down and not see the front sight.
Would it take 3/4" or maybe a 1" riser to do that?

Probably need to go with the higher one in that case.
Good luck, stay safe and happy hunting!

If you set it up right when you look through your red dot, it should be setting right on top of your front sight post. it also seems to make the red dots more accurate that way but that is just my opinion. I have scopes on mine without any front sights. But I do run 1/2" risers on my scopes!

Thanks guys. Looks like I need to make my mind up regarding co-witness or if I should just use the extra Bushnell scope I have sitting around since I'll be using it as primarily a predator rig with backup iron sights.
Thanks for the suggestions!

Chew, my primary AR is set up for predator hunting and I am running a Bushnell 6-24x50 on it so I can really reach out to them, the rifle is more than capable. Any scope you install that is over 3 power you wont see the front sight because you focal plane is so far down range from it. I had an 8-32x42 on it at one time, the Objective end was almost touching the front sight and I didnt see it. I dont know what the distances are where you hunt for predators but out here they can get pretty far and the rifle is accurate very accurate and in order to take advantage of that I find that a scope does better. I had a trueglo on another rifle but when the target/game got out around 150 the dot would completely cover the target/game. But I do like the TrueGlo, I have it on a slug shotgun now.

I'm in southeast Missouri. A long shot on my farm/my area would be 200 yards. I really think my best bet would be to use the 3x9-40 I have laying around.
I did a little reading/searching today. I had no idea you could mount a scope looking right at the A2 front sight and not have interference.
Thanks for the info! I'm looking forward to eliminating a few coyotes as soon as bow season is over.

3x9 @ 200yds will do just fine.
Would still get a riser (I use a 0.75 with med. height rings) to get proper cheek weld though.

I use a 1/2" riser with my scope. Does not co-witness with the front sight. Hope you enjoy your Sport.

I had the UTG .83 with the TRS-25 red dot but ended up switching it out to the 1" UTG. I little higher was better for me. It should give me a 1/3 lower cowitness when my BUIS come in.
