When I was handloading years ago I liked 26 grains of Varget pushing a Hornaday 60 grain HP bullet. Used CCI 400 primers and mostly S&B brass, also had some REM and Fed brass. At 100 yards I was getting 3 shot groups into 5/8".

Lake City brass, CCI 400, Hornady 55g FMJBT
Load 1: 24.0g Ramshot X-Terminator
Load 2: 27.0g or 27.5g surplus WC844 (depending on the lot)
These give me MOA or better 5-shot 100 yard groups.

I like the H335 powder and haven't tried any other. I just bought a 8 lb jug of H335 and a 1 lb jug of Varget. I hope I don't like the Varget better. Has anyone liked Varget enough to switch from H335 ?
I had read before that Varget is for4 heavier bullets, so I bought a lb just to try heavier bullets at 200 to 300 yards.

So far it looks like I am the only one running the CFE but a lot of places have it sold out. I have found it recommended for all of my reloading except for pistol. Even for my 30-30...we will see!

Rebs, sereiously, I don't think Varget (or any other powder) is gonna give you better groups with the 55's than your gettin now. Will be fun to experiment with some different bullets and powders though (is for me anyway).
Oneyeopn, what calibers are you using the CFE with and how does it perform. One of the main reasons I use Varget is it works very well for me in .223, .243, .260 and 30-06.

So far I am using it in 223 and 308, but as I just got the 30-30 I was looking up loads and it showed the CFE223 for it, and I talked to a couple of guys over in PacoKelly's Leverguns and they are using it with their 30-30's and really like it. They are only using it with Jacketed bullets but they also claim the Marlin Micro-Groove barrel works best with Higher power Jacketed bullets.

Rebs, haven't used H335 in anything but .223. Hodgdon lists it in several different calibers, but that don't necessarily mean anything. I have some and am interested enough to try it out in .243 tomorrow or Thurs. You can check the hodgdon site out and do custom searches for caliber and powders, but like I said, just because they list the load data doesn't mean that it performs well.

Oneyeopn, How is the CFE performing in the .308?

Storyteller I am really liking it in the 308...we were shooting night before last at some targets with the little targets in the corner, and I was just going bullseye to bullseye corner to corner at 100!!

Thinking about gettin some and trying it in .243 and .260. If it doesn't work out I can always use it up in the sport.

Other people I know that are using it also claim that it works better at the higher end of the load spectrum. Just so you know. most of my loads are a little over the middle of the range.

Just settled on my favorite load after today's range session.
(this is for .223) 41 primer, 26.2 gr BL-C(2), Hornady 55gr FMJBT, 2.200 OAL. Beats all the other combinations I've been playing with for the past few weeks. (tighter and more consistent groups).
