I was looking at my mags and I have a straight 20, not slightly curved and it has a metal follower, I am changing it out to a magpul follower but I wondered if it was considered pre-ban.

Pictures would help.

The straight 20-round magazines with metal followers are frequently pre-ban. However, there are variables.

What does the baseplate say? In the front spine of the magazine is there a logo? Is there a date stamp anywhere on the magazine body? Any other markings?

Thanks.

I have to question the need for changing out the follower, the orginial military 20 round mags are one of the most reliable mags ever as is. Sometimes the feed lips will crack after heavy use but there is really no need to upgrade the follower.

On the straight body 20 rounders, there is no need to change the follower. The curved body 30 round magazines are the ones that benefit from a good anti-tilt follower.

Oh ok..so no changing the follower. the Baseplate says:
"Adventure Line Mfg. Co. Inc."
"Parsons Ks. U.S.A."
On the front spine there is a marking, if you hold the magazine sideways it looks like a capital C with a capital H in the mouth of the c, the follower looks to be older than the sun but the magazine works really well. I live in a state where magazine size is not limited and I got this one with my Sport, the company threw it in in order to make the sale and I had never looked at it so closely, but after looking at it, it has to be pre-ban, too bad it is not a 30 round mag.

I have been trying to take pictures but I cannot get my camera to focus that small...when the wife gets home I will use her camera.

Thanks that got it here are the pics

That is definitely a pre-ban 20-round USGI magazine. The magazine body was made by Universal Industries (a division of Okay Industries). The CH on the side is actually UI. At some point in it's life the floorplate was swapped out. Okay (UI) made magazines for Colt, Simmonds, and possibly others.

They are considered one of the premiere 20-round magazine manufacturers. Okay is still in business and now makes magazines under their own brand.

Good magazines and very reliable.

If you're not interested in keeping it for yourself, offer it up for sale to your ban-state brothers at a reasonable price.

Thanks for posting the photos.

Maybe I could trade it for a PMag seeing as I only have one of those and a bunch of USGI's

Yep, pre-ban.

UI made everyones magazines, Colt included.

I've got some boxes full of their 20 rounders, about 230 total, also have 160 of their 30 rounders. Had them for years, all but 20'something of them are brand new still sealed in the plastic bag they came in from the factory as they were supplied on government contract back then. Picked them up years ago at a DoD auction in Memphis Tn when the depot closed there.

That is a pre-ban GI mag, and a nice one, too. I use 20 round mags at the range. Much easier shooting off the bench with a 20 round mag. As for legality, the only thing marked on a mag is the body of it. When I lived in NY, it was easy buying parts kits and swapping the body for an older one. Perfectly legal, too. There are millions of AR mags out there. Easy to get a pre-ban one of you live in a ban state.

Yeah, any interest in selling some?

I thought about this mag overnight, it is one of my favorites especially for shooting off of the bipod. I would like to end up with some more of these old military straight 20's. Something to look for in the future.

The twenty round mags are the best and keep you out of trouble. Like In Ohio you can own a 30 round mag but if you put thirdy rounds in it you are in trouble, 29 you are OK. I call it a case of stupid.

I do not even want to know what that law says? What about when I am traveling through OH with my CCW weapon ( Kel-Tec PLR-16 with beta Mag?) ? Could I only load 29? I need to check all state mag laws now. If it does not have a date how can it be proven not to be a pre-ban? Ban states can buy out of state preban mags?

Ask the out of state pistol owners that have been arrested in New York City if they can do that.
