Default Steel cases

Does anyone save the steel cases? I find them all around on the ground at the range, so I suppose they are a disposable item. Just wondering if anyone has a use for them.

Well, I've seen some "shell art" sculptures, etc., made from steel and aluminum cases, but that's about it.

It does get pretty messy around the tables at our outdoor range. Folks tend to pick up brass for reloading and recycling, and leave the steel. We do try to pick up everything after events held out in the middle of the outdoor ranges to help avoid having the mowers hit them, but steel is sometimes hard to find out in the grass. A good strong shop magnetic sweeper might be a good investment for cleaning up around the tables, and may help pick up out in the grass as well.

I bought a magnetic broom, 36" wide which I run over the ground liberally any place where I shoot, and try to remove as much steel casing as I can, just to be a better neighbor. Yes, it's the desert, and yes, it's vast. But if you leave a mess, eventually it becomes a problem, and I like to see good shooting areas remain open. Works great over campfire areas to remove nails leftover from pallets being burned as well.
We recycle steel at the shop, so I just dump the steel cases in the bin with the old pipe fittings. I have gotten some very strange looks from the guys at work when I say "I went shooting for a couple hours on Saturday" and then dump 4-5 gallon buckets of steel cases!

I shoot steel (Barnaul) with my cheap dispossable AR (Which will soon be replaced by an M&P15) and I just throw all the cases away.

You can't reload them so for a shooter it has little to no value.

Nothing is valuless.

I have a 55 gal drum that is dedicated to metal for recycling (steel...aluminum and copper have their own piles) and when its full it goes to the recycling center. Its not that I'm a green nutcase...combine the trip with grocery shopping or a trip to Wally World or Home Depot and it payts well enough to be worth it.
