Default Bought MP15 Sport Today and Need Scope Help

Thanks for looking at my thread, been lurking for a few months and finally pulled the trigger today and bought a MP-15 Sport on a Black Friday deal.

I haven't shot it yet but I need some help.

I want to use this as a part-time brush gun for deer hunting and want to buy a scope to put on it. I don't want to take the sights it comes with off if possible. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a scope looking in the $100 range and was curious as to what you guys/gals suggest and what all I need to buy with it to make it work.
. I'm looking for something that can keep me accurate at 200 yards

I want this scope, but not sure what else I need to buy with it so I can keep the factory sights (risers ?)

Thanks for your time, and hopefully you can help me out. Thanks again

In my opinion, you would be wasting time and money on that scope. Your M&P 15 Sport is capable of surprisingly good accuracy if you mount a decent scope on it. (Mine certainly is) I recently upgraded mine from a Nikon Prostaff 2-7X shotgun scope to a Redfield Revolution 4-12X scope. I haven't rezero'ed the new scope yet, but am hoping to even improve on the inch to inch and a half groups I was shooting with the Nikon. if you are on a strict budget, I suggest looking at this one: Nitrex TR One 3-9x42mm Rifle Scope Matte Finish TrexPlex Reticle - Natchez Shooters Supplies
It is a little more than $100, but I believe you would be much better off with it, as rumor has it to be the equivalent of a Weaver Grand Slam in quality of optics and durability. That is what I would do, in you shoes. If you spend $100 on a scope that won't hold zero or adjust properly, or falls apart internally, then it will just take you that much longer to save up for what you should of (or could have) bought in the first place. I like the Redfield Revolutions but they are a bit off of your price target. That Nitrex TR-1 is only $119.95 + shipping. You may also need a riser for the scope to get it to appropriate eye level. If you use something like the Burris or Nikon mount designed for the AR-15, it may not be necessary.
Good Luck.

I like the scope you picked out and judging by the reviews, others do as well. I would go with a riser or high/extra high rings to get proper cheek weld. No need to worry about the front sight with that optic either, it'll work fine. Good luck, let us know what you decide on and welcome to the M&P-15. Post pics when you can.

Use the iron sights until you can afford to buy a decent scope.

"I'm looking for something that can keep me accurate at 200 yards"

You won't find that in a $100 scope.

For just a little more money, Wally world has a Nikon 3-9 x 40 for 169.00 and I believe there is a mail in rebate also making it a little closer to your budget.

I think you are getting good advise here, I have old eye (one eye) so I get the best scop I can afford that does the job. I like Nikon and the one Nitrex I bought (4.5-20) was a steller scope. I have bought cheap scopes before that did not do the job and wound up taking them back. I have had good luck with Bushnell also or weaver. You do get what you pay for but for me, the sight is as important as the rifle its going on and have come close to spending as much or more on the scope as the rifle. the sport is certainly very accurate...........as many here can vouch for. For the best accuracy, i would also consider reloads dialed for your rifle...that also adds to the accuracy. You can always try a scope and really wring it out at the range....if it is not up to your standard....return it and get something else. I have had scopes that did not work for me and never had a problem returning them. Also shop e-bay and opticsplanet...you can find some very good deals on line.

I agree with MichicanScott. Learn to use your irons until you save enough for a decent scope.

Lots of good information in this thread, Nitrex is made by Weaver in case people didnt know. I lean toward Bushnell but there are a lot of good scopes out there. I have a CenterPoint that I bought at WallyWorld and have had great service from it plus if it doesnt work you can take it back. Mounts are very important, mounts are as important as the optic as you I am sure will learn. To get good mounts and a scope for $100 is a mighty hard task. I know about working within a limited budget so I just wanted to tell you the importance of the mounts. Welcome to the forum and enjoy your rifle. The Iron sights should let you shoot a deer out past 100 yards easily it just requires practice.

Funny I just posted a similar thread. Just my luck I'm drawn to a Trijicon TA11. Guess as Michigan stated I'll be shooting the iron sights a long time. :/

I do have a higher end Nitrex on my target rifle. Excellent scope.
