Storage question = bolt open/closed? Does it matter?
Ok,
Here is my next newb question.
I have a Sport and was curious what the 'correct' way to store it in the gun safe is.
Bolt open bolt / bolt closed / bolt closed partially w/ red "flag" in chamber ?
Trigger = Safe / Fire (reason I ask this one is someone was telling me that to set the trigger to 'Safe' you have to pull back the charging handle and this engages the firing pin which you don't want to leave engaged during storage?)
I've been told that if you leave it open and firing pin 'engaged' that is is bad for the internals?
Others have told me, doesn't matter how you store it as long as it is unloaded and secured.
Does it matter? Can you store it improperly with bolt in "wrong position" and cause issues? This is all new to me....
Thanks (and Happy Easter).
Eric

In the safe, I keep all of my boomers in the following way.
Cleaned, dummy round in chamber, trigger pulled on that dummy round, barrel down.
Cleaned to limit corosion, dummy round in chamber to relieve firing pin spring, sear, etc, and barrel down to protect butpads.
Outside of safe..... different story.

I store mine with the bolt closed and trigger pulled. That is how all of my firearms are stored in the safe, bolts closed and hammer down.
Shotguns that are used for HD, are stored with empty chamber, rounds in the tube, action closed but unlocked, safety off. I keep these this way as one is a Remington 870 and the other is a Mossberg 500. The action release and safety are located in different places on these shotguns, so I keep them where all that is needed is to pump the action to chamber a round and then feed an extra one into the bottom.
Pistols in use for carry are loaded with round in chamber.

at work, where the weapons are regularly issued, we keep the bolts open for the rifle/shotguns so the officers can see they are safe and unloaded.
but our long storage units have the bolts closed to releave spring pressure.

I store semi-autos with the bolt closed and hammer/striker down. Some of my bolt guns are stored with the bolt open because they pack easier in the safe.

My are stored every which way. All barrel up. Some have open bolts others closed with triggers cocked and uncocked. On my AKs i cant keep the bolt open. Im pretty sure at the moment all bolts are closed with the exception of bolt action rifles

Bolt closed. You can take the pressure off the hammer by riding the slide forward and catching the hammer on the way down.
