Default Optics for Sport

I'm looking for suggestions for the most useful optic for my Sport. Seldom more then 100 yards and primarily target use. Always been an iron sight user but it's time to improve my groups. Would like to keep it under $200 total. What are you using?

I chose the Vortex Strikefire red dot. I had originally had thought about putting a scope on it, but like you, I seldom shoot over 100 yds. The Vortex will set you back about $165. At 100 yds I'm getting a 6" groups and at 50 yds it's down to 1 1/2"-2" groups.

Are you looking for a red dot or scope? I believe a scope would bring more accurate groupings as opposed to red dot, but that all pends the shooter.

Nikon P223 3x9 with BDC reticle. Also using Nikon base as well. With the BDC reticle, sight gun in at 100 yards and the cicles on the reticle go up to 600 yards. $199 for scope, $49 for base.

I'm leaning toward the scope. I have zero experience with the red dot.

I also have the Nikon P223 3x scope as well. It is $149. It is a fixed 3x scope with two horizontal hash marks. The first crosshair zero is for 200 yards, the next 1 is 400 yards, and the last 1 is for 600 yards. It is a nice, clear scope. I have a couple of these scopes and they are nice. Check out http://natchezss.com for scopes.

I use a Barska M16 on my 15-22 and an AimPoint P.R.O. on my Colt M4.

The Barska is well under two bills and I actually have NIB one I was going to use on the Colt but found a great deal on the AimPoint. PM me if you would like more info.

Classic Cross hair? EOtech style recticle? Illumination important? 1-4 magnification? Or, something with a little more field view, like you tend to find in the 3x9's? Lol, it's a lot of questions, but if you can answer them, I feel I may be able to come up with a good optic for you. I'm not calling myself a match maker by any means, but I am currently researching them myself, and feel confident sharing what I have gathered. From text and first hand examination as well. Just think about what is important to you, and disregard what everyone else is doing. Think of the features you can live with, with out & "must haves", and you can start to narrow it down tremendously. The decision can then be made in a cool manner, and you won't feel so overwhelmed. A purchase can be made with confidence.

Sorry to get so long winded, but in short, I believe you can find plenty of quality scopes out there, in your price range.

Id look at the Primary Arms 6x scope, has an interesting reticle that resembles a leupold hamr.

I use an NcStar Mark III 3-9 scope with red dot. Combo cost right around $150. Also have back up iron sights offset at a 45.

I don't think you'd go wrong with either the suggested Primary Arms 6X scope or this one: https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_...e_p/pa416x.htm

I got the FFP 4-16x44 and love it, but that cost about 300 with mount. The one I linked to has great reviews and PA stands behind their products.

Here's a Youtube review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaBmbF4kjrE

I have the Nikon P223 3-9X on my Sport and love it. Very clear and sharp optics that holds it's zero. I bought the Burris PEPR mount and it's great also. YMMV
