What do you mean that the front sight is in the way? If you could provide a link to the Reflex sight you are trying to mount it would be helpful.

If you bought their one and only tactical model ^^^ with the pictured mount, the front sight will always be there. Zero your iron sights. Mount the dot sight, turn it on. While looking through your iron sights, position the dot on the tip of the front sight post.

If one of these ^^^^, I'm guessing a 3/4" to 1" riser on the rail?

From the pic on their web page, it looks like it already has a riser built in for absolute co-witness.

Wen you look through the sight with it mounted on the rifle, does the front sight go about halfway up through the sight picture?

Amazon.com: Sightmark Ultra Dual Shot Pro Spec NV Sight QD: Sports & Outdoors that's the sight. an I have the stock iron sights on the gun, the flip up rear sight an the front iron sight. its like the holographic sight isn't high enough

It's sure looks high enough to cowitness on an AR...

If you are looking through your rear sight and through the glass on your SightMark, the tip of your front sight post should be around the middle of the glass.

To zero your red dot.... If your irons are already zeroed, just use the irons as you normally would (as above) and adjust the red dot to the tip of the front sight post. Then you'll be good to go from there.

I went to Academy this morning and they have several Sightmark sights on display, attached to blue guns. All of the ones they had would co-witness without a riser. The field of view is small on those, but they do co-witness. The blue guns have a front sight base, but they are just solid... they don't have the ears and front sight pin where I could get a true sight picture, but the block stopped a little higher than half way.

I didn't care for the sight picture at all, and this is coming from a guy who shoots absolute co-witness with a fixed A2 rear sight and red dot.

It just looks like it's sure to high in the sight I'll mess around with it a bit

Try to forget the idea of field of view. A red dot sight, regardless of the size of window, has unlimited field of view when used as it is designed.

A red dot is not designed to peer through like a telescope or a kid looking through an empty toilet paper roll. It's designed to be used with both eyes open focusing down field.

I have an Aimpoint H1. You're not going to find a red dot with a smaller piece of glass. Yet, I have unlimited field of view shooting with both eyes open. Focusing down range, the small optic housing just about disappears.

The 1x red dot sight is perhaps the least understood, most misused and most popular sighting system to ever be invented.

While I agree with most of what you said Phil, with this thing, the FSB took up most of the window... and no matter where I put it on the receiver, it seemed like I was going cross eyed just trying to look through it to acquire the dot with both eyes open.

I shoot my .22lr with a 28mm Bushnell multi-reticle sight, absolute co-witnessed with a fixed A2 rear sight. Shoulder the rifle, both eyes open, dot floating just like it should. Could not do it with the Sightmark unit. I think my eyes were trying to focus on the part that sticks out behind the sight. It was odd, just didn't care for it.

I had that exact holographic sight. I got it from gander. I fired exactly 2 rounds before it stopped working. I got my money back on it. I might have gotten a lemon, for now I shoot without optics.

This SightMark optic sounds like its just screwed up.

I've had good reliable well functioning use from dime store optics over the years but found you have to be very selective. I had the SightMark holosight like Japes linked above. It was also poorly designed. The reticle would completely fade out in direct sunlight.

Primary Arms MicroDot
Bushnell TRS25
Vortex SPARC

Beyond that... Beware. There was recently a review of a $200 Redfield red dot that is specifically marketed for ARs... OP said it didn't mount properly for cowitness. You'd think by now that someone would have shipped an AR to China to give them a clue.

I am in the same boat as LandenClod - I do not want the front sight always in my sight picture.

I would like to lift the Optic so I have 1/3 Co-Witness, so the front sight is in the bottom 1/3 of my optic picture.

What amount should be added to achieve this?

Thanks.
