Default Ultradot 6

I am purchasing a S & W M & P 15 Sport. The Ultradot 6 looks like it will work on this rifle. Has anybody any experience with this set up? Also, is it difficult to "witness" this optic to this rifle?

There are a number of ways to cowitness with that red dot... from a one piece AR mount (if it will fit in the area behind the bell) or combination of rings and riser.

Unless I had that optic in a parts box in my closet, I would not bother to put it on an AR.

For that kind of money, I'd add another $100+ and get an Aimpoint Pro that is designed for an AR platform, or spend $100+ less on a Primary Arms red dot with mount that is designed for an AR platform.

Never heard of the Ultradot 6 until I read this thread. It looks like it's loaded full of gimmick dot sizes and reticules. Average price is $250-ish. At $250, you're at the point where you're better off saving for a while and buying an Aimpoint or EoTech.

If you are looking for a decent red dot for a good price, check out Primary Arms.

...and he ever popular and well reviewed PA Microdot / riser bundles:

As far as sighting in and zeroing your rifle, first zero your iron sights. Your Magpul backup rear sight is adjustable for windage (left/right). The A2 front sight is adjustable for elevation. This video gives a good method to zeroing the iron sights.

http://youtu.be/j5QCGWYfHWk

Once you have your iron sights zeroed, mount your dot. Turn on the dot. Deploy the rear sight. While looking through your iron sights, adjust the windage and elevation on the dot so that the dot hovers right at the tip of the front sight post. Your iron sights and your dot will be co-witnessed. Now you can shoot without having the rear sight up. Keep both eyes open and look through the optic.

Congrats on your new 15-Sport and welcome aboard. If you have any questions, just ask.

I have an ultradot 6 (pistol version) on my model 41 and really like it a lot.
It is a very popular optic with the pistol/bullseye crowd.
High end - top notch stuff, quality fit and finish is excellent.
mine is made in Japan and not China.
warranty and service is also supposed to be excellent tho I have not had to test that theory.
Ultradot west is a place you can get them.

I love all the people commenting that don't have one

Thank YOU! This is most helpful. It looks like I might want to do more research plus get a chance to actually look through the optic......LAST QUESTION - Do Red Dot sights give a person with "line free" bifocals a better look than a regular scope?

A lot of ARs in your bullseye pistol matches?

Ever think about mounting a Trijicon ACOG on your 41? It's a high-end top-notch optic made in the USA.

Not that you can't mount a Ultradot on an AR, but purchasing a 1x red dot that is designed to be mounted on on AR platform isn't such a bad idea especially when someone starts out with the question is it difficult to "witness" this optic to this rifle?. You might be surprised at the number of people who buy a generic optic and then struggle to get it mounted to work properly to cowitness on an AR platform.

With a 1x red dot, you focus only down range on the target. There is no reticle focus like on a conventional magnified optic with cross hairs.

I wear my distance glasses only when using a 1x red dot.

Hey now, some of us like those gimmick dot sizes and reticles!

OP, this does not look that much different than my Millet Multi-dot, or my Bushnell multi-reticle red dot that I run on my rifles, except that bell shape on the front... As Phil noted, you could use a Primary Arms cantilever mount to obtain a lower 1/3 co-witness, provided that it will fit between the turrets and the bell shape on the housing.

On my .22lr AR, I have the Bushnell currently set up on a .5" inch riser and a ring to obtain co-witness, but it is pretty ghetto... I just wanted to get it mounted and happened to have these items on hand. From the Ultradot 6 web page, it appears that they have some rings to obtain co-witness as well that are sold separately.

On my son's 15-22, we have a Bushnell TRS-25 with a .83" riser.

All 3 of these can be had for less than $100. I agree with the others that I would not go with the Ultradot 6 for $250. If I am going to spend more than $150 on a red dot, I am going to get an Aimpoint. I don't think you are getting anything above and beyond from what Bushnell or Primary Arms offers for half the price.

I don't know if the Ultradot 6 is the best choice for an AR, but I do have an old 1" Ultradot mounted on my Ruger Police Carbine and I am very happy with it. The Ruger rifles have their proprietary scope rings and mounts, so the simple solution was a 1" Red Dot site to fit the standard Ruger rings. I found a used Ultradot for $40 or $50 at a gunshow and it's been rock solid since I installed it several years ago.

I would go (already went ) with Strikefire Red dot but just for $109 best price from the internet for brand new. Lot of great reviews from everywhere
