Caldwell Mag Charger AR-15 Mag Loader

I watched the video and it looks nice but I buy PMC .223/5.56 ammo and it comes in 20pks.By the time I load the box up I can load my mags by hand.The springs on my AR-15 mags are nowhere near as stiff as the springs on my handgun mags so I couldn't justify the cost.It also looks like there is too much that could break on that loader.IMHO!

Right pricey too.... any of the ones from Lula will work just fine and cost a heck of a lot less.

IIRC, I have a 5 round Lula and it works great. The worst thing about it, and it's a small point, is that most mags should only be loaded to 28. I go to 30 with PMags without any problem, but 28 is the better practice as it can be just enough more difficult to reliably latch a 30 round mag on a closed bolt. On no mag other than a Pmag would I go past 28.

That loader is reminiscent of the tool used to load .22LR rounds into the extended Ruger 10/22 mags back in the early 90s. Perhaps it still exists... As poster Coltle6920 states, there's a lot going on there!

All of my AR-15 mags are Tapco 30rds.I loaded them until it got difficult.After using them a few times 30rds go in with no effort.I also keep them loaded so they're always ready to go.They work flawlessly so far but they're only a year old.

I just went with the UpLula for AR's, figuring that if it worked as well as the pistol version I'd be happy. It does, and I am! I don't remember what I paid but it wasn't anywhere near what the Caldwell unit goes for.

I gotta agree with coltle6920. By the time I could load all the rounds into the box I could just about load 'em into the Magazines. And why was he only loading 6 rounds per magazine? All the magazines for MY Colt LE6920 are easily loaded. 10rnd, 20rnd, and 30rnd.

That contraption looks a whole lot like "much adoo about nothing" to me.

I have a Strip LULA Speed Loader, LULA All-in-One Magazine Speed Loader and Unloader, ProMag RD USGI Magazine Loader, and a LCMS10 Speed Loader. They all work well with my favorite being LULA's All-in-One Magazine Speed Loader and Unloader for bulk lose ammo. Stripper clip mounted ammo with the Strip LULA Speed Loader, both are fast and easy on my fingers and thumbs. You could buy all for of them for the price of the Caldwell Mag Charger AR-15 Magazine Loader.

Fast yea but you have to have your rounds in a Ammo Transfer tray or Flip-Top Ammo Box. This would be fine for reloaders. If you buy bulk or 20 30 round box you have to take them out of these containers and load into the Ammo Transfer tray or Flip-Top Ammo Box so might just as well save your money and just buy the other loaders. The strip LULU is not as fast but would load 10 rounds on stripper clips PDQ IMHO.

I still have a RamLine magazine loader for 9mm. Some of you guys know what it is.
It actually works if you don't try to rush. 100% genuine solid plastic. Very ******.
I gave $5 for it out of the yard sale bin.
It wil load any 9mm. mag.
That thing in the OP might be handy for training days at the range, but I can load strippers pretty easy. And loading loose rounds ain't so bad if youy know what you are doin'.

That loader is ridiculous.
I don't find it difficult to load mags, and if I needed one of those to make it faster, I'm shooting way too much too fast. It's really not good to get your barrel white-hot.

Pretty sure they were loaded, 5 rounds at a time...

After using an Uplula for pistols, I bought one for AR mags. It works great, but I don't use it that often except to un-load. The mags just aren't that difficult.

Why would it be in the wrong place, does the Colt take a proprioritory magazine unlike any other AR. You asked a question about a AR magazine and loader they all equal in loading. We just gave advice about our experience with loaders. The Caldwell Mag Charger would be faster if all your ammo was in Ammo Transfer tray's or Flip-Top Ammo Box's like I stated in my post, but there are cheaper ones out there that are fast and won't hurt you fingers and thumb. Now that would be faster loading my Beta C-Mag. but I would only load It once a session so no need for me to have one.

Also,the spoon that comes with 5.56 stripper clips in ammo cans will also work on PMags. Little tight but it works good too.

"AR-15 is an AR-15 is an AR-15 ..." Sure hope so,or there would be a LOT of fighting going on in my gunsafe.

That isn't the best video of that working and the sound track is off. That loader is "supposed" to load pushing and pulling the handle (from what I was told) AND that open looking area on the one end of the loader is "supposed" to align the bullets when you dump a handful in so they are all in the same direction and can put them in the provided tray to dump them in the loader (or storage box like theirs) to load them.

Did a little research... Seemed a bit pricey and I'd like to see how well they hold up after a couple thousand rounds first.

SHTF I'm going with stripper clips,spoon and bandoliers out of ammo cans. UpLula works best for what I need at the range.

Can't see how "this was in the wrong place." My MSR's are mostly M&P's. But I do have a Colt or two, same on the Rugers. Your question was about the loader,not the make of the weapon...or even what brand mags you are loading....

I too like the strip lula loader. Just per load stripper clips be for hand. I have 1000 rounds ready to go on stripper clips just for shtf.

I use the trigger to unload my mags!!

Something that a lot of folks have never discovered is that you don't need a tool to make it easier on your fingers with stripper clips. Just place the clip in the spoon then place the top round against the end of a table, etc. Have one edge closely against the clip, hold the magazine, and push gently against the table until the rounds are all in the magazine. Other places on the weapon are available in the field.

I use the strip loader myself, and highly recommend it. 90% of my ammo is on stripper clips, and it also works for loose rounds too. As inventorguy mentioned, you don't have to have this tool, use can use the spoon that is typically included, or you can do it by hand - but it makes it quick and easy.

I haven' tried the toggle style tool, but everything UpLula makes is quality stuff.
