I thought there were only two models of M&P 15 thar are equipped with 20" barrels: the two performance center models.

I wouldn't mind S&W making an A2 20". I'd buy one.

Actually, any M&P-15 can be had with a 20" barrel. Just spin the barrel nut off, remove the barrel, replace with 20" barrel and torque on the barrel nut.
I'm not being sarcastic here either. Here's one for $185: https://www.model1sales.com/index.cf...ategory_id=359
Buy an M&P Sport. Add that barrel. Add your favorite forearm and voila! For less than $1K, a rifle that is exactly what you wanted rather than buying a gun with the 20" barrel and having to change out several parts (you know you're gonna do it anyway).

Shush. If you make this rational suggestion, then how can we justify suggesting building a 20" barreled upper from scratch?
2 Uppers > 1 Upper.

Several quality match grade 20" barrels available......building a new upper would by my recommendation, rather than swapping out of a perfectly good AR.

Dude, this is how we grab them. Once he sees how easy it is to swap out the barrel, how far away can a new build from the ground up be? I mean, he'll have a 16" barrel just lying around not doing anything so, he'll need the parts to make it useful, right?
