Default Opinions on TRS-32

I have a Bushnell TRS-25 right now, it's fine, but the actual sight picture is so small. I need something a little bigger. I looked at the Vortex Strikefire but I also saw the TRS-32, which on paper seems like exactly what I am looking for. Bigger view, and Bushnell isn't too bad, I like my TRS-25.

Looking for opinions on this TRS-32. It doesn't have to be battle hardened. I'm 43, I'm not going to be running through war zones and rising in slow motion out of some brackish body of water. I will be taking it to a range and shooting at paper. The only action this thing might see is a SHTF situation. Although my go-to plan for SHTF is my car.

It sounds as if you are trying to look through the optic with one eye as if it were a scope... that is not how to use a red dot.

Mount the red dot as far forward on the receiver as possible. Keep it on the receiver, not on a railed hand guard. Now shoulder the firearm and keep both eyes open, focusing down range on the target. If you focus on the target, the sight will ghost out and your dot will appear to hover on the target.

No I am definitely looking through it with both eyes. The biggest problem for me is looking through it while not using the red dot. It is co-witnessed with my sights, and with that small sight window, there just isn't much opening there to see my target through.

Perhaps you should get a higher riser and try lower 1/3 vs. absolute co-witness.

The difference will be a 5moa dot versus what you have now 3moa.

If you want a larger tube, look at the Aimpoint Pro. You can get them for about $370. The price of the TRS-25 you have now that you don't like, plus the 32 that you won't like the dot size, plus the next dime store optic.... Might as well get the Pro and be done with it. The EOTech has an even larger window.

I LOVE THE TRS-32. I BOUGHT ONE TO PUT ON MY DAUGHTERS AR. IT WAS ONLY FOR PLINKING. I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW NICE IT WAS FOR THE PRICE. I KNOW HAVE 2 MORE MOUNTED ON MY 1911 BULLSEYE GUNS. SLIDE MOUNTED SO THEY TAKE THE FULL RECOIL. I'VE BEEN USING THEM FOR 5 MONTHS ON THE 1911'S. BEST VALUE FOR THE MONEY.

$110 NEW ,DELIVERED ON EBAY JUST SEARCH TRS-32

I agree with Phil, as I think you will be unhappy with the larger dot. I would go one of two ways... either do like I suggested earlier and go lower 1/3rd, or just use the rifle as you have configured it... red dot is your primary optic and irons are back ups. As back ups, there are compromises, but they are to be used if and when the primary fails.

Or, get yourself some offset mounts that have the sights at an angle off to the side. To use those, you twist the rifle about 45 degrees... I've never used them, but it allows you to use the irons without looking through the optic.

If you're still wanting a 32 here they are on sale for $79.

I settled on a Primary Arms 3MOA 30mm Gen II red dot. After reading around, the consensus, at least on arfcom, is that if you are unwilling to spend $600+ on an Aimpoint or an EOTech, your two choices are the Vortex Strikefire or a Primary Arms. I did not dig the pushbutton UI on the Strikefire at all, so I went with the Primary Arms.

If I was taking this rifle into combat I'd spend the 600+, but I'm not.

I have the Primary Arms on my M&P15-22 and like it just fine.
The Aimpoint PRO sells for $400 or so right now. My Sport wears one and it rocks. I'm pretty sure that as Christmas draws near, you'll be able to find the PRO in the $300 range.
Aimpoint has a new budget optic, the ACO, that should sell for less than the PRO.
Be interesting to see what they are priced at through the holidays.

Does your rear sight fold down?
If not, I second the lower third cowitness idea.
(higher mount)
Then you could just raise your eye slightly when using the reddot, and lower it to use the rear sight.
That's how I use it on my 15-22 since it has a non-folding rear sight.

You should only be looking through your rear sight if the dot has gone offline for some reason.

Hope that helps.
