Magpul SL Handguard Problem
I've searched on this site and elsewhere and can't seem to find anyone else with this problem. I am trying to install the MOE SL carbine length hand guard on my M&P 15 OR. It's not the first time I've installed a hand guard or rail on an AR. I'm using a delta ring tool and I'm not a complete idiot (close maybe, but not complete). Has ANYONE else had an issue with this? It seems like it's just two or three millimeters too long but that's enough to prevent the top piece from going in. Any help you guys could provide would be appreciated.

Is it possible that it is binding up on the gas block? Is the top piece butting up against the railing on the gas block? It is made for the A2 FSB, which is slanted, and perhaps there just isn't quite enough clearance for the squared off gas block... nothing a dremel couldn't fix though.

I installed this same hand guard on my Sport model about 4 months ago. I did not have the tool - just gripped the ring and pulled it down. It's a tight fit but it worked. Good luck

I'm thinking I agree with you. The gas block might just be a bit in the way. The MOE SL has a deep cut in that top piece but just isn't quite there. But I was already thinking dremel so... time to get crafty! Thanks
ps- @pdblue I switched to a rail system on this rifle before and yeah, you're right. I could pull the d-ring down by hand, no problem. It's the hand guard.

Big fan of those. Just looking for some variety with this particular rifle.

I also have M&P 15 OR. I e-mailed Magpul to ask if the SL handguard would fit. They said no, it would fit only those with the front sight gas block. The old MOE(the one before the SL model) would fit the OR as well as the new M-Lok.

Thanks for that! I also emailed them and called them. No response from the email or the voice mail yet. Which is unusual. I've gotten very good customer service from them in the past. But I guess you've answered my question. Appreciated.
